PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Frank McMally (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Phillip McGee (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Frank McMally!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Phillip McGee!
The judges for this bout are James Glass, Andrew Berry and Daniel Bishop.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
McGee takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.
McGee misses with a body shot.
McMally throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around McGee's waist but McGee gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing McMally off to one side.
McMally tries to clinch there but McGee circles away.
McMally tries to clinch up but McGee circles away and keeps his distance.
McGee fakes high and swings low for a body shot but McMally manages to avoid it.
McMally tries to close the distance and clinch up but McGee swats him away and circles back towards the center.
McMally with a nice cross.
McGee fakes the leg kick and cracks McMally in the body.
McGee avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
McMally fails in his attempt to clinch.
McMally is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by McGee.

McMally takes the fight into the clinch.
McGee wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but McMally has him pressed against the cage.

That's one minute gone in the round.
McMally tries to land a knee to the head but misses.
McGee tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. McMally just stands there and leans against the cage.
McGee is clearly stalling here... Pick up the pace son.
McMally goes for a takedown in the clinch but McGee prevents it.
McGee has McMally pressed against the cage.

McGee pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
McMally scores with a punch to the head.
McMally moves in looking to clinch but McGee pushes him off.
McMally tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but McGee swivels and escapes.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Frank McMally. That's going to take a lot out of him.

McGee closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

McGee is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so McMally is just riding it out for now. McGee eventually gives up the hold.
McMally tries to roll over but McGee keeps him under control.
McGee throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
McMally tries to kick McGee off in order to stand up. McGee Avoids the leg push though and dives into side control.
McGee controlling from side mount.

McMally is looking to reverse the position.
McGee tries to score with some ground and pound. McMally controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.
McGee controls the position.
McMally wants to control but McGee postures up.
McMally is trying to get back to half guard.
McMally is breathing heavily.
McMally on the wrong end of some ground and pound.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
McMally is trying to control McGee's posture but McGee avoids it.

McGee decides to stand up, so the ref orders McMally to his feet.
McGee cracks a nice hook into McMally's ribs.
McGee lands a head kick. McMally smiles back at him and beckons him forward.
McGee throws a head kick but McMally moves out of range.
McGee avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

McGee closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming McMally to the mat! McMally manages to get full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
McGee stops McMally from standing up.
McMally trying to strike off his back.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Phillip McGee dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Nice takedown defense from McMally. No joy for McGee on that attempt.
Frank McMally is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
McMally with a poor takedown
and McGee makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick.
McMally swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
A bone on bone clash there as McGee blocks the leg kick.
McGee lands a straight punch to the body, keeping McMally at a distance.
McMally uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by McGee.
McMally misses with a two punch combination.
McGee displaying good standup as he scores with a three punch combination.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

McGee closes the distance and clinches.

McGee successfully pulls guard.

McGee scrambles and gets back to his feet.
Frank McMally seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
McGee throws a left and a right that both miss

and McMally counters by moving into the clinch.

McMally breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

McMally clinches.
McGee is stalling here.
Both guys are working to get underhooks.
McGee controlling the action here for a moment.
McMally is working McGee over against the cage.
McGee tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. McMally smiles and moves away.

McGee shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in McMally's guard.

McGee won't allow McMally to sweep him here.
McMally being controlled here, momentarily.
McMally looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
McGee trying to control the position from guard on top but McMally is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
McGee is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

McMally has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes McGee off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.
McMally tries to clinch but fails miserably

and McGee counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
McMally gets underhooks to prevent McGee's takedown attempt.
Frank McMally has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Phillip McGee.

McMally pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
McGee wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.
McMally avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
McGee is throwing a lot of body shots here, looking to wear down McMally rather than just go for the knockout.

McGee closes the distance and clinches.

McMally breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
McMally uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by McGee.

McMally keeps control of McGee as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.

McGee is fighting off a takedown attempt but McMally is just too persistent for him and manages to trip McGee to the mat. McGee regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.

McGee had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. McMally is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. McGee Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take McMally's back instead.

McGee is working really hard to secure the rear naked choke. McMally defends successfully for a significant amount of time. Both fighters are looking very determined.
McMally trying to control the action but McGee just sinks the hooks in.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Phillip McGee showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

McGee punishes McMally's body with a nice straight punch.
McMally shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.

McGee gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
McGee lands a hook to the side of the head.
McGee fails to pull the fight into his guard.
The two fighters are working to gain dominance in the clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
McGee continues to stall. The referee tells him to work or he's going to break them up.
McGee is trying to break free.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
McGee stalling in the clinch but McMally improves position.

McMally breaks from the clinch.
McMally tries to clinch but McGee moves away

and McGee counters by moving into the clinch.
McMally tries for a takedown but McGee manages to get underhooks.

McGee gets control of McMally's arms and successfully pulls guard. McGee will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.

McGee is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
McMally stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. McGee swivels though and keeps the full guard.

McGee working away from the bottom but not quite defensive enough there because McMally has passed into half guard!

McGee has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. McMally is working away from the top position though.

McMally is working for a submission of some sort.
McMally is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
McMally wants to pass to mount but McGee is defending the position.
McGee is not content to let McMally control the position.
McGee wants to control but McMally is keeping busy and won't allow it.

McMally looking for a submission but McGee manages to get full guard, putting an end to that submission attempt.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
McGee is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
McGee is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Phillip McGee is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

McMally stands and steps away. McGee gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Frank McMally has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
McGee just misses with a punch to the body.
McMally swings away with a leg kick that misses.
McMally misses with a series of wild punches.

And that's the end of the fight!
Phillip McGee comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got McGee winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
