Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
10 - 14 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Klay Montez! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
9 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Van Harvey! The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, and Jack Bonds.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Harvey will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. Harvey gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here. Montez gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground. Harvey working for a triangle but Montez defends it easily.
Montez trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Harvey is trying to keep Montez in close.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Montez wants to control from the top but Harvey keeps moving.
That's one minute gone in the round. Harvey looking to hit a scissor sweep but Montez is one step ahead there. Montez throws a big right hand that misses. Harvey managing to control the position. Harvey can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Montez controls the pace. Montez tries to free his leg and advance position but Harvey is retaining full guard.
The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Harvey with a poor takedown so Montez counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility. Harvey is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control. Montez has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player. Montez trying to control but Harvey is working from the bottom. Montez stays in close to Harvey's body and controls the position. There's a bit of a scramble here and now Harvey is on top in guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Harvey wants to pass the guard but Montez is keeping the position. Harvey sitting in guard here, content to control. Harvey is looking to pass into half guard but Montez pushes him away with his feet and jumps on top - now Montez is in guard. Montez is pushing down on Harvey's leg trying to pass to half guard. Harvey is fighting to maintain full guard but Montez has managed to sneak the leg through. Harvey wants to control but Montez is keeping busy.
Harvey is staying active underneath Montez, who seems content to just control the action from this position. Montez is stalling here. Harvey is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Montez seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Harvey has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Montez is looking to reverse the position. Harvey is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Montez has escaped the position, nice work there. Montez struggling a bit here. Harvey wants to lay and pray for a moment but Montez keeps working. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Harvey might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Montez haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Klay Montez dominated that round. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!
Harvey has taken the fight to the clinch.
Montez drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Harvey gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Harvey softening up his opponent with strikes, against the cage. Montez breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Harvey has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as Montez is landing a low percentage of strikes. Montez tries to score a power double leg takedown but Harvey sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Montez somewhat. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Left hook, right uppercut from Harvey.
It looks like Klay Montez has been cut.
That's one minute gone in the round. Harvey gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily and Montez counters with a nice double leg into guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Montez controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling. Harvey manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Montez manages to get himself to full guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Harvey trying to control the position from guard on top but Montez is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Klay Montez overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Harvey engaging in some classic timewasting tactics. Harvey stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Montez swivels though and keeps the full guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Montez managing to control the position. Harvey wants to control from the top but Montez keeps moving.

Montez fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Harvey, pushing him back against the cage. Harvey is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Montez is defending well. A short right from Harvey on the inside. Harvey will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Montez up against the cage.
That's four minutes gone in the round. An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Harvey. Harvey holding his opponent close, against the cage.
Montez breaks the clinch.
Harvey tries to clinch but Montez moves away and Montez counters with a shoot takedown into half guard. Montez is trying to control. Harvey wants to improve his position but can't escape this time. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Harvey wants to improve his position but Montez is controlling well.
Harvey gets back to full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
A close second round but Van Harvey will probably get the nod - 10:9. The cut man is working on Klay Montez's cut. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!
Harvey instigates a clinch. Montez struggles to land a body shot inside as Harvey controls his hands.
Both guys are working to get underhooks. Montez is trying to drag Harvey to the mat but Harvey just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there. Montez has clasped his hands together around Harvey's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done. Montez controlling from side mount. Harvey is looking to regain half guard here but Montez keeps moving and retains side control. Harvey is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard. Harvey is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Montez pulls his head out easily. Montez content to sit in half guard and control for a moment. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Montez moves into full mount! Harvey won't be happy about that! Montez is in the full mount, landing strikes. Montez wants to control the pace but Harvey is squirming around nicely. Harvey is desperately trying to get back to half guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Montez is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Harvey can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
Montez tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position. Harvey tries to reverse the position but Montez maintains control.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Montez looking to finish Harvey with some ground and pound. This is bad for Harvey! Harvey is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Montez lands a big elbow. Montez tries to control but Harvey wriggling away. Harvey is writhing around trying to get back to his feet. Harvey is squirming around, avoiding Montez's attempts to control the action. Montez unloading with bombs! Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Montez tries to control but Harvey wriggling away. Harvey is looking to get to half guard.
And that's the end of the fight! Klay Montez showed his dominance in that final round. I think Montez has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
