Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Joey James (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Lars Romanow (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Lars Romanow! The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Yamamoto, Ren Mimura and Yuuki Gou.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! James will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
James misses with an uppercut. James walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush. James throws a series of punches but Romanow moves out of range. Romanow looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it. James misses with a body shot.

Romanow paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button. Lars Romanow seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. James misses with a few strikes there.
Romanow slips a jab from James. Romanow keeps James at a distance using the push kick. James is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Romanow. James on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those. This has been an exciting period of action! Romanow scores with the left hand. Romanow has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout. Romanow misses with a hook. Romanow takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming. James is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.

I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Romanow throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd. James shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Romanow's guard. Romanow bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in James's guard.

James escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Romanow gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Romanow throws a jab but it's blocked by James. Romanow lands with a right hand. The fight stays on the outside here - Romanow looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Romanow pushes James away with a front kick. James swings and misses with a shot to the body and Romanow counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head. James scores with a jab. I was talking to James's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight. James takes an elbow to the temple. Romanow lands a nice elbow. Romanow rushes James and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch. A right hand to the body from Romanow.

James tightens his grip and picks Romanow up, before dumping him to the ground. Romanow manages to land in guard. James won't allow Romanow to get back to his feet. Romanow keeping moving, preventing James from controlling successfully. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Romanow can do anything to dispel that myth. James throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Romanow works some decent striking defense from the bottom. Lars Romanow is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

James has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Romanow can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Romanow is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
That's four minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. Romanow wants to pass the guard but James is keeping the position. James looking to sweep here. No luck so far. James controls Romanow momentarily but Romanow frees himself. If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup. Romanow sitting in guard here, content to control.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Joey James has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Romanow comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
And that's the end of the fight! Lars Romanow comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. I've got Romanow winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
