Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
6 - 11 - 1, fighting out of Sydney, Daniel Cohen! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
11 - 12 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Piet Kriel! The judges for this bout are Shigeki Sano, Tatsuya Matsuyama and Yukihiro Yamamoto.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Sloppy strikes from Kriel. Those never looked like landing. Cohen will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. And Kriel tries to counter it with a takedown but Cohen pushes his down on his head and steps out. Cohen checks the leg kick. Kriel scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground. Kriel looks to score some points with some ground and pound. Kriel throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man. Cohen trying to hold on to Kriel's head to control him but Kriel postures up.
Cohen has hold of Kriel's hands but Kriel slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Kriel scores with a couple of good hammerfists. Kriel has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount. Kriel content just to control the position here. Cohen definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
That's one minute gone in the round. Kriel looking to control but Cohen is working nicely, looking to advance position himself. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Kriel is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Cohen is surviving well by controlling Kriel's body position as best he can. Kriel landing shots from mount. Kriel lands a heavy elbow. Kriel controlling from mount. Kriel can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Cohen is looking to escape. Kriel controlling from the full mount.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The referee warns Cohen that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
Kriel avoids the attempt from Cohen to control. Kriel tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position. Kriel wants to finish this one by submission but Cohen is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Kriel. Kriel looking to ground and pound but Cohen is blocking nicely. Cohen knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Kriel on the ground. Kriel working to secure an arm triangle but it's not happening for him just yet. Kriel sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Kriel fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
Cohen is rocked! Kriel connects with a bit shot that sees Cohen covering up! More strikes from Kriel and the referee jumps in to stop the fight! Kriel is our winner by TKO!
