Coming up we have a middleweight Tycoon World Grappling Championship rules bout between John Gites and Deangelo Flagg. Gites's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, Eminem - Above The Law . The crowd seem to be enjoying Flagg's choice of entrance music: What Its Like. This should be fireworks!
This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the middleweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of London, with a TWGC record of 6 wins and 8 losses; John Gites! And in the blue corner, fighting out of New York, with a TWGC record of 0 wins and 0 losses; Deangelo Flagg! The judges for this bout are Dillan Fox, Alec Ball and Steve Smith.
Let's get this grappling contest under way! Who will be victorious? Flagg gets caught flat footed, as Gites shoots in with a quick takedown into guard. Score +2 for takedown into guard / half guard: Gites (2) vs (0) Flagg Flagg wants to sweep here but Gites controlling him for the moment. Flagg keeping moving, preventing Gites from controlling successfully. Flagg is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Flagg had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Gites defends it easily. Gites got a little sloppy there for a moment and Flagg has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Gites has managed to get both his arms back between Flagg's legs - danger averted. Gites slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Flagg wants to control the position but Gites says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard. Flagg regains full guard. Nicely done.
That's one minute gone in the round. Gites forces his way into half guard. Gites wants to pass to mount but Flagg is defending the position. Flagg looking for submissions off his back. Flagg tries to roll over but Gites keeps him under control. Gites with a momentary lay and pray from half guard. Flagg is trying to get back to full guard. Gites takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position. Gites wants to free his trapped foot but Flagg is holding on for dear life with his legs. Gites looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Gites content to control rather than advance. Flagg trying to control but Gites postures up.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Gites trying to control the action but Flagg is working from the bottom. Gites is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Flagg is just riding it out for now. Gites eventually gives up the hold. Gites in half guard on the top. He's looking for a kimura... He's got it locked and he's managed to free his trapped foot. Flagg tries to escape but it's on too tight and he has to tap! Great BJJ skills there from Gites!
