Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
5 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Samu Paelinck! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
6 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jimmie Connor! The judges for this bout are Trevor Gratis, Yves DeLean and Ian Loll.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Paelinck lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent. Paelinck has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance. Paelinck changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Connor looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. Paelinck landing with strikes to the head and body from side control. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Paelinck throws a strike aimed at the side of Connor's head but Connor avoids it well. You can see the frustration on Connor's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. Paelinck controls the position. Paelinck scoring with punches from side control. Paelinck looks up at the clock and then as Connor takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Paelinck smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!
Paelinck in side control, throwing shots but Connor defends. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Connor can do anything to dispel that myth. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Paelinck misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
Paelinck controls the position. Paelinck looking to punish the body of his opponent here but Connor is avoiding damage well.
That's one minute gone in the round. A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet. Connor taking a bit of punishment here - Paelinck scoring with strikes.
Connor is rocked! Paelinck lands a big left to the face of Connor, bouncing his head like a basketball. Another shot from Paelinck and another - Connor is out! Paelinck stands up and salutes his fans, who are going crazy in the stands.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:30 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Strikes). Samu Paelinck! Samu Paelinck made sure to give a little speech post fight, saying 'Look at the text from our last fight. I told you to retire already. Get lost, kid. '. Jimmie Connor spoke after the fight, saying 'I'LL GET BACK TO THE DRAWING BOARD AND SEE WHAT WENT WRONG , I WILL BE BACK '.
