PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Iain Reilly (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Michael Hughes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Reilly comes to the cage accompanied by Dubliners - Fields of Athenry. Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 18 - 0, fighting out of New York, Iain Reilly!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 4 - 0, fighting out of London, Michael Hughes!
The judges for this bout are Matheus Silva, Mauricio Rocha and Seu Braga.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Reilly looks to throw the jab but Hughes is out of range.
Michael Hughes seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
A looping hook to the body misses from Reilly. Hughes does a little dance to reset his feet.
Hughes scores with a three punch combo!
Reilly displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Hughes.
A slow jab from Hughes misses its intended target.
Reilly scores with a nice head shot.
Hughes throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Reilly stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Reilly lands an overhand right.
Hughes tries to close the distance and clinch but Reilly swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Reilly appears to be looking for a counter takedown.

Hughes closes the distance and pushes Reilly back into the cage.

Reilly breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Reilly avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
The fighters circling - Reilly throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Reilly displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Hughes throws out the jab.
Hughes misses with a straight left.
Hughes takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
Reilly moves out of range as Hughes strikes.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Hughes fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Reilly manages to avoid it.
Hughes takes one to the chin there.
Reilly lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.

Hughes gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
We've been hearing reports that Reilly has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight.
Hughes misses with a punch on the inside.
Hughes lands a hook to the body. It's hard to tell if that hurt Reilly or not.
An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Reilly.
Hughes misses with the head strike.
With the fighters clinched against the cage, Hughes creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.
Reilly is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Hughes pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Reilly lands a right hand.
Reilly is trying to push Hughes away but Hughes has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.
Hughes told us before the fight that he's been working on his elbows. An under utilised technique these days - let's see if it can sway the outcome of the fight.
Reilly goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
Hughes blocks a couple of punches on the inside.
Reilly lands with a short shot to the head.
Hughes misses with the head strike.
Hughes is trying to drag Reilly to the mat but Reilly just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Hughes goes for a takedown attempt but Reilly pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Iain Reilly has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Michael Hughes.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Hughes tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Reilly was well out of range. Poor timing from Hughes.
Reilly misses with an uppercut.
Reilly throws a looping overhand right but Hughes ducks down to avoid it.
Reilly bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
Reilly's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Hughes connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Reilly scrambles back to his feet.


It looks like Iain Reilly has been cut.
Hughes looks to land a right hand but Reilly moved out of range.
Hughes drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.
A jab from Hughes does it's job there.

Reilly waves his right hand out in front of him, looking to distract Hughes. Oh, he's unloaded a beast of a left hand - it worked! He's dropped Hughes to the canvas! Can he finish him!?


Hughes is rocked!
Hughes is trying to control the position but Reilly postures up.
Hughes is still in real trouble! Can Reilly finish him?
Reilly trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Reilly throws a big elbow that misses.
Reilly is looking to work some ground and pound but Hughes has wrist control.
Hughes seems to have recovered his senses.
Reilly is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
Hughes utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Hughes trying to keep a closed guard but Reilly is proving a slippery customer.
Reilly arches his back and unloads with a massive left and a right! Hughes's eyes roll back into his head, he's out cold! The ref dives in to stop the fight - wow, they were hard shots!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:25 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Strikes). Iain Reilly!
Iain Reilly seemed lost for words in his post fight interview but he remembered to thank his fans and directed everyone to his website.
