PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Rex Tanner (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bam Morriz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Rex Tanner!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Bam Morriz!
The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Gwen Towbar and George Francis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Morriz tries to keep at a distance but Tanner has taken the fight into the clinch.
Morriz is trying to break the clinch but Tanner has him pressed against the cage.
Morriz throws an elbow but it's blocked.

Tanner is fighting off a takedown attempt but Morriz is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Tanner to the mat. Tanner regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.
Morriz advances to half guard.
Morriz stalling.
Tanner could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Tanner misses with some strikes from the bottom.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Morriz throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

Morriz has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Tanner is trying to keep an underhook but Morriz manages to get the takedown into half guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Tanner throws a sloppy strike from the bottom. He's now off balance and Morriz manages to pass to side control.

Morriz is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Tanner is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Tanner parries the strikes from Morriz easily there. Morriz is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Tanner to escape.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

I really don't envy Tanner right now.
Morriz is trying to stick to Tanner's back but Tanner is turning into Morriz. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Morriz's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Tanner.

Morriz is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Tanner defends it well.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Morriz looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Tanner with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Morriz decides to stand back up. Morriz steps back and let's Tanner get back to his feet.

Morriz frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

Tanner is flailing around like a fish out of water, trying to land strikes.

Morriz sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it!

Morriz manages to capitalize on a mistake by Tanner to take his back!
Morriz lands a punch to the side of the head from the back.

Tanner is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Morriz gets his way!

Well Morriz has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
