Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
14 - 5 - 1, fighting out of Helsinki, Nick Hay! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
14 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Borys Mankowski! The judges for this bout are Donald Grub, Colin Fotheringham and Sam Margolis.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Hay tries to clinch but Mankowski moves out of range. Mankowski with the counter takedown but Hay avoids it easily. Mankowski circles away from the clinch attempt.
Hay closes the distance looking to clinch so Mankowski counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility. Mankowski throws a big elbow that misses. Hay knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Mankowski on the ground. Mankowski drops back, looking for a kneebar! Hay looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Hay looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Hay! Mankowski throws an elbow to the body but it doesn't land. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Mankowski manages to get back to half guard. Mankowski works his way to full guard. Good work. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Mankowski is looking for a triangle but Hay pushes his legs off easily.

That's one minute gone in the round. Mankowski working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Hay doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Hay manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Mankowski is working actively from the bottom, looking for submissions. He's escaped his hips to the side and he's going for an armbar! Hay has his hands clasped together but Mankowski extends and breaks Hay's desperate grasp, forcing a tap out due to armbar! Nice BJJ displayed there by Mankowski.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:25 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Borys Mankowski! Borys Mankowski very nearly forgot to thank RAGS of a RONIN amongst all the excitement of his win but just as the interview came to a close, he screamed their name.
