PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Ryder O Reilly (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mark Pilsner (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Ryder O Reilly!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Mark Pilsner!
The judges for this bout are William Gold, Chris Edwards and Phil Schofield.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Pilsner moves into the clinch successfully.

O Reilly manages to break the clinch.
O Reilly closes the distance and clinches up with Pilsner, looking for a takedown. O Reilly pushes Pilsner against the cage but Pilsner circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Pilsner stuffs the takedown.

Pilsner scores with a takedown into O Reilly's guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
O Reilly looking to hit a scissor sweep but Pilsner is one step ahead there.

Pilsner cracks O Reilly with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.

O Reilly wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by Pilsner.
O Reilly manages to regain half guard. Good work.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Pilsner won't allow O Reilly to get back to his feet.
Pilsner seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Pilsner wants to stand and escape but instead O Reilly has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

O Reilly drops back, looking for a kneebar! Pilsner looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Pilsner looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Pilsner!

Pilsner wants to lay and pray for a moment but O Reilly keeps working.
Pilsner has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

O Reilly tries to strike but it doesn't land.
Pilsner wants to control for a moment but O Reilly uses the opportunity to move back to half guard.
Pilsner is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.

Pilsner wants to work for an arm triangle but O Reilly is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
O Reilly is trying to get back to full guard.

Pilsner is looking for a kimura here.
Pilsner seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but O Reilly does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Pilsner is looking to take a break and control but O Reilly is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
O Reilly really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Well, if Pilsner is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Pilsner tries to stand but his hand is stuck under O Reilly.

Pilsner tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.
Pilsner tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. O Reilly just stands there and leans against the cage.
O Reilly tries to pull guard but Pilsner holds him up against the cage and eventually O Reilly drops back down to his feet.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Pilsner tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

O Reilly is fighting off a takedown attempt but Pilsner is just too persistent for him and manages to trip O Reilly to the mat. O Reilly regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.
Pilsner is standing up over O Reilly. O Reilly looks to escape but Pilsner dives into side control.

Pilsner misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.

Pilsner decides to stand back up.

Pilsner closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming O Reilly to the mat! O Reilly manages to get full guard.

O Reilly pushes Pilsner off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mark Pilsner showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Back to the action! This is the final round!


O Reilly tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Pilsner manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
O Reilly avoids a punch combination nicely.

Pilsner throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. O Reilly was covering up waiting for the punch and Pilsner finishes the takedown easily into guard.

O Reilly manages to wriggle out and sneak his way back up to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched up against the cage.

O Reilly lands a short shot on the inside that snaps the head of Pilsner backwards.

Pilsner has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics O Reilly uses from the top position.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Pilsner can do anything to dispel that myth.

Pilsner is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Pilsner has his foot on O Reilly's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. O Reilly works his way back into a safe position though.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
O Reilly cracks Pilsner with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.

Ryder O Reilly is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

O Reilly closes the distance and clinches up with Pilsner, looking for a takedown. O Reilly pushes Pilsner against the cage but Pilsner circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.

O Reilly prevents Pilsner from moving into mount.

Mark Pilsner has got the better of the ground game so far.
Pilsner sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but O Reilly is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
Pilsner cracks O Reilly with an elbow. That is naaassty.
O Reilly avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Pilsner.

O Reilly is not content to let Pilsner control the position.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Ryder O Reilly.
Well Pilsner has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
