PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Eldridge Hammond (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Guttorm Johannesen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Eldridge Hammond!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Guttorm Johannesen!
The judges for this bout are Paulsen Ambrosius, Wagner Zegers and Albert Achterberg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Johannesen takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.
Johannesen looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!
Hammond fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Hammond misses with a takedown attempt - Johannesen sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Hammond shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Johannesen defends it nicely.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Eldridge Hammond. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Hammond shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Johannesen but Johannesen pushes him off and we're back to square one.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Hammond throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Johannesen's waist but Johannesen gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Hammond off to one side.

Johannesen scores with a head kick. Hammond tried to block it but didn't get his arm up in time.
Nice takedown defense from Johannesen. No joy for Hammond on that attempt.
Johannesen tried to score with a low kick but Hammond checks it.
Hammond changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.
Hammond shoots in but no luck this time.
Johannesen swings for the body but Hammond moves out of range.
Johannesen tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Johannesen throws a decent looking leg kick but it doesn't land clean.
Hammond moves into range and connects with a jab.
Johannesen throws a lazy uppercut
and Hammond counters with a one-two to the body.
A big right from Johannesen misses.
Hammond feinted with a counter takedown.

Nice takedown defense from Johannesen. No joy for Hammond on that attempt.
Hammond pulls out of a head kick attempt.
No joy there for Johannesen, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
As Johannesen tries to get set, Hammond tries to push him back and clinch up but Johannesen manages to avoid the attempt.
Hammond fails to land the takedown.
Hammond scores with a nice body kick.
This has been an exciting period of action!

and Johannesen counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.
Hammond really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Hammond shoots in looking for a takedown but Johannesen manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Hammond's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Hammond.

Hammond avoids a punch combination nicely.
Hammond wants to take advantage of his opponent's missed offense by moving into the clinch.
Hammond shoots in but Johannesen avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Johannesen throws a counter combo.
Johannesen looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it.
Hammond shoots in for a takedown but Johannesen shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Johannesen connects with a high kick.

Hammond pushes Johannesen up against the cage in a clinch.

Johannesen can't break the clinch.

Hammond jumps into guard, dragging Johannesen to the mat.
Johannesen tries to stand but Hammond is controlling from the bottom.
Hammond pulls Johannesen in close to his closed guard and prevents Johannesen from doing any damage or advancing position.
Johannesen wanted to stand there but Hammond had control of the position.
Johannesen wants to stand and escape but instead Hammond has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

Hammond is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Guttorm Johannesen dominated that round.

Hammond shoots in for a double leg but Johannesen sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Johannesen misses with a leg kick.
Johannesen throws a leg kick

and Hammond counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Hammond.
Hammond is trying to drag Johannesen to the mat but Johannesen just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Hammond misses with a punch to the body.
Hammond is working for takedown but Johannesen is calmly controlling the position for now.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Eldridge Hammond. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Hammond gets control of Johannesen's arms and successfully pulls guard. Hammond will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Johannesen wants to get up but he can't break Hammond's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Hammond seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Hammond is on top in guard.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Johannesen can do anything to dispel that myth.

Hammond prevents Johannesen from getting back to his feet.
Hammond with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Hammond seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Johannesen wants to get back to his feet but Hammond passes into half guard.

Hammond is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Johannesen is just riding it out for now. Hammond eventually gives up the hold.
Hammond takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Hammond is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.
Hammond content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.

Johannesen manages to escape and get back to his feet!
Johannesen misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Johannesen misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Johannesen defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Hammond.

Eldridge Hammond is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Johannesen throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Horrible takedown attempt by Hammond or perhaps it was just good defense by Johannesen, which made it look bad.
Johannesen throws a counter combo.
Hammond changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Johannesen tries to avoid it but Hammond manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Johannesen to the ground. Johannesen escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Johannesen throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Hammond.
Hammond shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Johannesen sprawls well. Johannesen wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Hammond gets slowly back to his feet.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Johannesen throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Hammond shoots in and drives through. Johannesen sprawls well.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Guttorm Johannesen showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!


Johannesen throws a head kick but Hammond moves out of range.
Johannesen throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Hammond.

Hammond gets a double leg takedown into Johannesen's guard.
Hammond engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Hammond is in close to Johannesen's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Hammond will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Hammond's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Johannesen takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Hammond seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Johannesen wants to get back to his feet but Hammond is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Eldridge Hammond overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Johannesen tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

Hammond looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Johannesen!
Johannesen bucks up and tries to throw Hammond off but instead Hammond has got his back!
Johannesen wants to get back to his feet.

A bit of a pause in the action here. Hammond controlling the positon.
Hammond connects with a series of strikes and the referee is calling for Johannesen to escape the position.
You know, I was talking to some of our celebrities at ringside tonight and they were split right down the middle on who was going to win this fight.
Hammond is working the ground and pound here and the referee is taking a close look at Johannesen. He must escape soon or this one will be stopped.
Hammond slows the pace down here. Having a little breather whilst he's in a dominant position, looking to rest and regain some energy, ready to go for the finish.
Hammond seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Johannesen for as long as he can get away with.

Hammond lands a couple of good shots to his opponent's body and a final shot to the head. Good little attack there by Hammond.
Johannesen is trying to remain composed but Hammond is hammering down strikes to the side of his head.
Hammond is throwing punches to the body, looking to soften Johannesen up.

Hammond lands with a couple of good shots - one to the side of the head and one questionable shot that could be viewed as to the back of the head but the referee lets it go.
Hammond is looking cool and calm here, just waiting for a good opportunity to attack and finish the fight from this dominant position.
Hammond has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Guttorm Johannesen is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Johannesen is squirming around looking to escape but he's just wriggling himself into more trouble. Hammond sinks in the hooks and manages to tighten his grip on a rear naked choke. Johannesen has no choice but to tap and Hammond jumps to his feet to celebrate and slick submission win!
