The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cruz throws a head kick that misses
and Pacquiao counters with a straight punch to the midsection.
Cruz closes the distance looking to clinch
and Pacquiao connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Cruz tries to grapple but his opponent circles

Pacquiao cracks Cruz with an open hand slap.

and Pacquiao counters with a nice uppercut.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Cruz looks to clinch
and Pacquiao counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
Pacquiao lands with a nice combination. Cruz backs away looking to recover.
Pacquiao has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Cruz doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Pacquiao counters with a lovely shot to the body.

Cruz takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.
A head kick by Cruz misses
and Pacquiao counters with a huge uppercut, hook combination that drops Cruz! The ref has seen enough - he's dived in to stop the fight! Brutal strikes by Pacquiao!
