Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
No luck with that takedown attempt from Bates.
Scoville throws a feint and then finishes with a kick to the body.

Bates tries to keep at a distance but Scoville has taken the fight into the clinch.
Bates could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Let's hope that Scoville has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Bates might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Scoville would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

and Scoville counters with a single leg into guard. Bates didn't expect that.
Scoville pushes down on Bates's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Scoville is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.

Johnny Scoville showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Scoville dives in and grabs Bates's left leg, looking for a takedown. Bates pushes down on Scoville's head and hops out.

Despite the aggression on Scoville's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter.

Scoville tries to score a power double leg takedown but Bates sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Scoville somewhat.

Scoville shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Bates is trying to defend but Scoville finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

Scoville is taking a breather. Bates says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Bates throws a sloppy head kick and Scoville moves out of range easily.
A nice combination there by Scoville.
Bates will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Well Scoville has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

Johnny Scoville decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
