PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Granville Myers (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mirko Kutljaca (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Granville Myers!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Mirko Kutljaca!
The judges for this bout are Colin Fray, Ryoma Takatsuka and Paul Gruel.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kutljaca goes for a double leg but Myers avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Myers continues to drive forward.

Myers feints and as Kutljaca raises his hands in defense, Myers changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Myers stops Kutljaca from standing up.
Kutljaca manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Myers manages to get himself to full guard.

Kutljaca is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Kutljaca drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Kutljaca jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Kutljaca wants to stand but Myers has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

Myers wants to stand up but Kutljaca is controlling him.

Myers wants to improve his position but instead Kutljaca has moved into half guard.

Kutljaca is looking for a kimura but Myers is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Kutljaca to get the leverage.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Myers controlling the leg, holding on to half guard.
Kutljaca looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Myers with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Kutljaca seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.

Myers is looking to get full guard. It looks like he might be successful but at the last minute Kutljaca jumps into side control!

A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.

Kutljaca decides to take the fight back to the feet.
Nice sprawl there from Kutljaca as Myers shoots in.

Myers leaves Kutljaca with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Myers blocks a head kick by Kutljaca.
Myers throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Kutljaca's waist but Kutljaca gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Myers off to one side.

and Kutljaca counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Myers thinking.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Granville Myers. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Myers is breathing heavily.

Kutljaca darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Still in half guard, Kutljaca seems content to control.

Kutljaca is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Myers is just riding it out for now. Kutljaca eventually gives up the hold.
Kutljaca looks to score some points with some ground and pound.

Kutljaca wants to lay and pray for a moment but Myers keeps working.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Kutljaca is thwarting Myers's attempts to control the position.

Kutljaca seems to be looking for submissions.
Kutljaca wants to take a breather but Myers is having none of it.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Kutljaca lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
Kutljaca wants to control but Myers is keeping him busy.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!



Kutljaca darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Myers trying to keep hold of his opponent's head but Kutljaca manages to pass to mount!
Myers is looking to improve his position but Kutljaca isn't that keen on the idea.
Kutljaca can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Myers is looking to escape.

Kutljaca is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Myers can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Myers tries to hold on but Kutljaca postures up.

Myers is in a bad position, trying to hold on for dear life but he is really struggling to maintain any sort of control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Kutljaca wants to control the pace but Myers is squirming around nicely.
Kutljaca prevents Myers from getting the reversal.
Kutljaca is landing with some decent strikes but Myers is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
Myers wants to improve position but instead he's given up his back.
Can Myers hold on?! Kutljaca is landing more strikes to his hapless foe.
Myers trying to control the position but Kutljaca manages to sink in the hooks.
Kutljaca lands punches and elbows.
Myers trying to control the hands but Kutljaca won't let him.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Kutljaca is hanging on to Myers's back as he tries to escape.
Myers trying to control but he's just got himself in more trouble.
Kutljaca is throwing punches to the body, looking to soften Myers up.
Kutljaca has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Myers is being controlled on the ground here - he must escape this position otherwise surely the end is near.
Kutljaca keeps control of the position as Myers tries to break free.
Myers wants to control his opponent's hands but Kutljaca gets his hands free.
Myers looking very determined here, making life difficult for Kutljaca.

Kutljaca really has the hooks in deep now - there seems like no escape for Myers.

Kutljaca is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. Myers is defending well though. Kutljaca let's go of the attempt for now.

A lull in the action here.
Oooh a big shot gets through from Kutljaca. Many more shots like that and the referee will have to think about stepping in!

What can Myers do to escape this position? He's going to have to figure it out pretty quick if he wants to stay in the fight!

Mirko Kutljaca showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Kutljaca breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Myers with a lazy takedown attempt
and Kutljaca counters with a huge left! Myers is in big trouble! He's backing up but Kutljaca isn't giving him chance to recover. Under a barage of punches the ref has to step in to save Myers from any more damage. A dominating finish by Kutljaca!
