Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Hugo Merrill (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jakob Menkrylov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jakob Menkrylov has the power to score a knockout today if he connects clean with Hugo Merrill's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Hugo Merrill! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Jakob Menkrylov! The judges for this bout are Tatsuya Matsuyama, Shigeki Sano and Yuuki Gou.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Menkrylov drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard. Menkrylov throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Merrill works some decent striking defense from the bottom. Menkrylov is looking to work some ground and pound but Merrill has wrist control. Menkrylov wants to control from the top but Merrill keeps moving. Menkrylov is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully. Menkrylov controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling. Menkrylov passes Merrill's left leg - he's now in half guard. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Merrill wants to get back to full guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Merrill is not content to let Menkrylov control the position. Merrill wants to get back to his feet.
Merrill flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.
Merrill is pressing down on Menkrylov's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it. Merrill throwing strikes off his back to little effect.
Merrill will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Merrill trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from!
The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity. Menkrylov shoots in and gets a takedown into Merrill's guard. Menkrylov tries to free his leg and advance position but Merrill is retaining full guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. There's a bit of a scramble here and now Merrill is on top in guard.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Merrill looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Merrill can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Menkrylov controls the pace. Menkrylov advances to half guard. Menkrylov wants to lay and pray for a moment but Merrill keeps working. Merrill moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard. Menkrylov is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact. Merrill trying to keep a closed guard but Menkrylov is proving a slippery customer.
Merrill really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
That's four minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. Menkrylov tries to free his leg and advance position but Merrill is retaining full guard. Menkrylov preventing the sweep. Menkrylov trying to control but Merrill is working from the bottom. Menkrylov controls from within his opponent's guard. Menkrylov slips nicely into half guard, despite the strikes coming from Merrill. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Merrill wants to get back to full guard. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Jakob Menkrylov dominated that round. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!
Menkrylov gets in close and instigates a clinch. Menkrylov lands a takedown into guard.
Menkrylov is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Merrill is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Merrill has escaped and now he's on top! Menkrylov trying to control the position.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's one minute gone in the round. Menkrylov escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Merrill gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Menkrylov working for a triangle but Merrill defends it easily.
Menkrylov has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Merrill has passed into side control.
Menkrylov is trying to get back to half guard. Merrill wants to control but Menkrylov is keeping him busy.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. Menkrylov can't do much from the bottom here. Merrill controls the position. Menkrylov tries to improve position but can't. Merrill is looking to take a break and control but Menkrylov is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Menkrylov tries to bench press Merrill off him but Merrill keeps the position. Merrill lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face. Merrill tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Merrill working the body and head with strikes. Menkrylov can't do much from the bottom here. Menkrylov is looking for a sweep. Merrill wants to lay and pray for a moment but Menkrylov keeps working. If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup. Menkrylov on the wrong end of some ground and pound. Merrill postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
Menkrylov is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Merrill has just dragged him back down to the mat. Merrill tries to stand but Menkrylov is controlling his head.
The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
That's four minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Menkrylov tries to sprawl but Merrill drives through with a takedown into half guard. Menkrylov kicks Merrill off and gets back to his feet. Menkrylov throws a head kick that misses and Merrill counters by moving into the clinch. Merrill has Menkrylov pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Merrill pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Menkrylov tumbling to the mat - Merrill dives into Menkrylov's guard. Merrill trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat. Menkrylov throwing strikes off his back to little effect.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Merrill scoring with some ground and pound. Merrill wants to control from the top but Menkrylov keeps moving. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Hugo Merrill dominated that second round. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!
Menkrylov swats away the attempt to clinch by Merrill. Menkrylov closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Merrill did well to prevent Menkrylov getting side control. Merrill looking for submissions from an awkward position here. Merrill trying to control but Menkrylov postures up.
Menkrylov drops an elbow to the side of Merrill's head. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Merrill is looking to control Menkrylov's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Merrill avoid being mounted? Menkrylov wants to lay and pray for a moment but Merrill keeps working.
That's one minute gone in the round. Merrill is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Menkrylov scores with a couple of nice shots. Menkrylov controlling the action here. Menkrylov trying to control from half guard but Merrill is working away. Menkrylov drops an elbow to the side of Merrill's head.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Merrill punching from the bottom.

Jakob Menkrylov has got the better of the ground game so far. Menkrylov is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Menkrylov passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Merrill! Menkrylov putting on the heat here with some good ground and pound! Merrill takes a big shot to the dome and his eyes have rolled back in his head! Menkrylov's killer instinct has kicked in as he finishes the fight with more strikes. Impressive finish.
