0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ritchie Souza! The judges for this bout are Stewart Dunkirk, Alan Glass and George Francis.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Souza closes the distance and clinches. Baldwin pulls guard. Baldwin keeping full guard, as Souza tries to pass. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Souza throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. Baldwin is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Baldwin keeping full guard, as Souza tries to pass. Baldwin keeping moving, preventing Souza from controlling successfully. Baldwin utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Baldwin pulls Souza in close to his closed guard and prevents Souza from doing any damage or advancing position. Souza tries to free his leg and advance position but Baldwin is retaining full guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Souza cracks Baldwin with a solid left hand. Souza trying to control but Baldwin is working from the bottom. Souza has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Baldwin keeping full guard, as Souza tries to pass. Baldwin keeping moving, preventing Souza from controlling successfully. We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace. Souza is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet. Souza clinches up against the cage.
That's two minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Good body shot from Baldwin.
Baldwin fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Souza tries to pull guard but Baldwin holds him up against the cage and eventually Souza drops back down to his feet.

Baldwin wants to stand up but Souza is controlling him. Souza wants to control from the top but Baldwin keeps moving. Souza looking to pass the guard. Souza is looking to work some ground and pound but Baldwin has wrist control. Baldwin knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Souza on the ground. Souza content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
That's three minutes gone in the round. The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Baldwin looking to hit a scissor sweep but Souza is one step ahead there. Souza landing with the ground and pound. Souza loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry. Souza wants to control from the top but Baldwin keeps moving. Souza is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position. Baldwin will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Souza passes into half guard. Baldwin avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Souza.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Baldwin tries to roll over but Souza keeps him under control. Baldwin really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. Souza is trying to work for a kimura but Baldwin is defending well.
Well, if Souza is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Souza seems to be working for a kimura but Baldwin defends the submission attempt. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Souza is trying to control the action in half guard but Baldwin is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Ritchie Souza dominated that round. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!
Baldwin lands a two punch combo.
Baldwin closes the distance and clinches. Baldwin manages to get underhooks and slows down the pace for a moment.
Baldwin manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back. Baldwin keeping full guard, as Souza tries to pass. Souza stands up from Baldwin's guard - Souza perhaps looking for a knockout. Souza misses with a takedown and Baldwin counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Souza moves into the clinch. Baldwin manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back. Souza throws a big right hand that misses. Souza tries to free his leg and advance position but Baldwin is retaining full guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Souza trying to control but Baldwin is working from the bottom. Souza throws a big elbow that misses. Souza wants to control from the top but Baldwin keeps moving. Baldwin seems keen to control Souza's posture. Baldwin trying to control the position.
Souza pushing down on Baldwin's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work. Souza prevents Baldwin from improving his position. Souza stops Baldwin from getting back to his feet.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Souza is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Baldwin defends it well. Souza is trying to control. Baldwin wants to improve his position but can't escape this time. Souza uses his free foot to push down on Baldwin's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Baldwin. Souza pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage. Baldwin is in a horrible position here. Souza smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
Baldwin is rocked! Souza takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though. Oh Baldwin is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!! Souza is working to isolate an arm here. It's a telegraphed submission attempt but he's gone for it anyway - and he's got it! Souza extends the arm and Baldwin is forced to tap!
