TWGC 16 (185lbs, D3): Finals - Round 2 PBP Commentary


Coming up we have a middleweight Tycoon World Grappling Championship rules bout between Ethan Carter Williams and Carlos Gracie. On his way into the cage it seems that Ethan Carter Williams has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Ethan Carter Williams seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

In the red corner, competing out of New York, with a TWGC record of 7 wins and 1 losses; Ethan Carter Williams! And in the blue corner, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, with a TWGC record of 3 wins and 0 losses; Carlos Gracie!
The judges for this bout are Reed Andrews, Eddie Farnsworth and Bruno Lombardi.


The fighters bow as they face eachother in the middle of the mat and we are under way.
Gracie shoots in for a takedown but Williams shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Williams takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Williams is controlling his opponent, waiting for an opportunity to finish.

Gracie is in a bad position with Williams working for a choke. Gracie manages to spin nicely into guard and the danger is over for the moment.

Williams has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

Williams manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Gracie manages to get himself to full guard.

Williams sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Gracie's guard.

Williams swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Gracie is now in Williams's guard. A big mistake from Williams there, giving up the dominant position!

Williams has control of Gracie's left arm, preventing Gracie from doing any damage.
My spies in Cozad MMA Rio inform me that Gracie has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends!

Williams is pulling down on Gracie's head. It's preventing any offense from Gracie, at least for the moment.

We've been hearing good reports from Williams's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.
