The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mercer ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Maia moves away.
Maia was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger.
Mercer has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as Maia is landing a low percentage of strikes.
Mercer swings for the body but Maia moves out of range.
Mercer fails with the takedown
letting Maia counter with a right hand.

Mercer swings away with an uppercut that misses.

Mercer tries a body shot but Maia blocks it.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Mercer wants to take the fight to the mat but Maia manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.

Maia unloads with a big right hand that wobbles Mercer! He's leaning against the cage trying to keep his feet but Maia is unloading with more strikes now! Mercer drops to his knees and the referee stops the fight for a TKO!
