PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Alistaar Uberveem (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Samoa Joe (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Uberveem comes to the cage accompanied by Deftones - Change. Joe has chosen Destroyer as his entrance music. Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Alistaar Uberveem!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Samoa Joe!
The judges for this bout are Skip Squint, Topper Green and Hugh Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Joe shoots in but no luck this time.
Uberveem scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!


It looks like Samoa Joe has been cut.
We've been told by Uberveem's head coaches at Kangaroo's MMA that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.
Joe misses with a takedown attempt
and Uberveem counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
Joe will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
A counter left hand to the body from Uberveem misses its target.
Alistaar Uberveem has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Samoa Joe.

In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Joe working his ground and pound in the gym. He isn't landing a great percentage of his ground strikes so far though.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
You can see the frustration on Uberveem's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Uberveem is trying to get back to half guard.
Joe lands some shots froms side control.

Joe throws a strike aimed at the side of Uberveem's head but Uberveem avoids it well.
Joe fails to land a wild elbow strike.
The ground and pound from Joe seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.

Joe looks up at the clock and then as Uberveem takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Joe smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!

Joe is looking to take a break and control but Uberveem is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Joe works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.
Joe connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Uberveem some visible discomfort.

Uberveem takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
Uberveem dodges the ground and pound from Joe.
Joe trying to control the position but Uberveem is working away.
Joe creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Uberveem sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.
Joe is staying tight to Uberveem's torso, preventing him from escaping.
Uberveem avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Joe.

Joe throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.
Uberveem is looking for a sweep.
Joe tries to score with some ground and pound. Uberveem controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.
Joe sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Uberveem is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.

Uberveem is breathing heavily.
Joe remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
The strikes coming from Joe are missing the target in this wave of attacks.

It looks like Alistaar Uberveem has been cut.
Uberveem managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Joe.
Uberveem on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Uberveem tries to get out of the position.

Joe in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows.
Joe content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.

Joe postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
Joe throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.
Joe grinds an elbow into Uberveem's temple.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Samoa Joe dominated that round.
Both fighters have cut men working on them during the interval.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Joe fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Uberveem enables Joe to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Uberveem manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Joe wants to control from the top but Uberveem keeps moving.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Joe distracts Uberveem with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.

Joe lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Joe wants to control from the top but Uberveem keeps moving.

Joe throws a big elbow that misses.
Joe loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Joe working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Joe cracks Uberveem with a solid left hand.

Samoa Joe has got the better of the ground game so far.
Joe lands a couple of digs.


Alistaar Uberveem's cut is getting worse.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Joe postures up.
Joe throws a strike but Uberveem rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Joe is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Joe thows a huge punch but Uberveem dodges it nicely.

Uberveem on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.


Alistaar Uberveem's cut is bleeding quite badly. He's got to try and protect it.
Joe is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
Joe content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Joe is looking to take a break and control but Uberveem is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Joe throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Uberveem because Joe loaded up on that one.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Samoa Joe showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!


Joe shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Uberveem defends it nicely.

The referee calls the doctor in to look at Alistaar Uberveem's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:05 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Cut). Samoa Joe!
Samoa Joe was full of energy after the big win and talked about how he thinks he can do big things in this sport. The crowd were appreciative of his determination to succeed.
Alistaar Uberveem was interviewed post fight and said 'he took this one fair and square, we are now even at 1 a piece...Uberveem x Joe III needs to happen, and i promise it will end like the first fight did. i was simply off my game tonight.'.
