PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Charley Hanagan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ury Dikunov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hanagan comes into the arena with Cro Mags - We Gotta Know blaring out of the sound system. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Charley Hanagan!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 4 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Ury Dikunov!
The judges for this bout are Jeff Smith, Ryoma Takatsuka and Chris Saunders.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Hanagan.
Dikunov changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.
Hanagan throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Dikunov's waist but Dikunov gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Hanagan off to one side.

Hanagan gets tackled into the cage by Dikunov. Dikunov maintains the clinch.
Dikunov gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Hanagan.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Charley Hanagan. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Hanagan tries for a takedown but Dikunov manages to get underhooks.

Hanagan gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.
Dikunov wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Hanagan manages to pass to side control.


Hanagan seems to be working for a kimura but Dikunov defends the submission attempt.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Dikunov is looking for a sweep. Hanagan is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Dikunov can do anything to dispel that myth.

Hanagan is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Dikunov has managed to free his arm - good work.

Hanagan is pressing down on Dikunov's thigh, looking to free his foot. Dikunov is holding on for now.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Dikunov is looking for a sweep. Hanagan is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Hanagan wants to lay and pray for a moment but Dikunov keeps working.

We've been hearing good reports from Hanagan's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.

Hanagan has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Dikunov is looking for a sweep. Hanagan is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Well, if Hanagan is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Hanagan wants to free his trapped foot but Dikunov is holding on for dear life with his legs.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

Hanagan is looking for a kimura here.

Hanagan looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Dikunov trying to hold on to Hanagan's head to control him but Hanagan postures up.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Dikunov is refusing to be controlled, as Hanagan sits in half guard.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Charley Hanagan dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Dikunov fails with an attempt to clinch.
An attempted straight right counter from Hanagan misses the target.
Dikunov fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Nice sprawl there from Dikunov as Hanagan shoots in.
Dikunov shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Hanagan counters with a nice double leg into side control. Dikunov won't be happy with that.
Dikunov wants to get back to his feet but Hanagan drags him back down.
Hanagan is looking to take a break and control but Dikunov is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Hanagan has worked his way into a potential kimura here. Dikunov is trying to get out of the position but his squirming has just got him deeper into trouble. Hanagan yanks on the arm and Dikunov is forced to tap due to a very painful looking submission! Nice work by Hanagan.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:46 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Charley Hanagan!
Charley Hanagan spent the whole post fight interview bigging himself up. It didn't go down that well with the fans after a while as they thought it was a bit arrogant.
