Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Sherman Burks (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Lucas Powers (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Lucas Powers will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Sherman Burks!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Lucas Powers!
The judges for this bout are Emerson Jorge, Thiago Cunha and Matheus Silva.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Powers swings for the body but Burks moves out of range.

Burks tries to keep at a distance but Powers has taken the fight into the clinch.

Burks decides to pull guard.
Powers is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Burks wants to stand and escape but Powers is having none of it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Powers loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Burks keeping moving, preventing Powers from controlling successfully.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Burks could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Powers's corner is telling him to maintain position.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
It looks like Powers might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Powers keeps Burks at a distance using the push kick.

Powers closes the distance and clinches.

Burks gets a nice trip takedown into half guard.
Burks not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Powers is trying to maintain the position but Burks is very close to passing his half guard.
Powers is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Burks not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Burks sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Powers defending well though.
Powers trying to control here.

Burks wants to work for an arm triangle but Powers is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Burks throwing shots but Powers is blocking nicely.

Burks is working for a kimura from half guard. He's really concentrating on the hold and it's allowed Powers to slip a leg under and get back to full guard.
Burks is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
Burks missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Burks throws a big elbow that misses.

Powers working for a triangle but Burks defends it easily.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Burks stands and steps away. Powers gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Powers instigates a clinch.
Powers is defending well against a takedown attempt.

Burks jumps guard.
Burks working a defensive guard but Powers manages to pass into side control anyway.

Powers is trying to get an arm triangle but Burks is defending well.
Burks is trying to control Powers's posture but Powers avoids it.

Powers trying to control the position but Burks is working away.

Powers decides to stand up, so the ref orders Burks to his feet.

Powers has managed to clinch.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Powers lands an elbow that stopped Burks in his tracks for a moment.
Burks tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Powers smiles and moves away.
Lucas Powers seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Burks throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Powers was covering up waiting for the punch and Burks finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Powers pushes Burks off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Lucas Powers dominated that round.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!



Powers has Burks up against the cage in a clinch.
Burks trying to land knees to the body.
Powers has Burks pushed against the cage.
Burks really is built like a bowling ball. I wonder if he'd roll if you pushed him down a hill...

Powers jumps into guard, dragging Burks to the mat.
Burks postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Burks in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

Burks gets to his feet - Powers follows without any prompting.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Powers shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Burks counters by clinching up.
Burks stops a takedown attempt from Powers.
Burks goes for a takedown in the clinch but Powers prevents it.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Powers decides to pull guard.
Burks wanted to stand there but Powers had control of the position.
Burks has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Burks decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Powers, up you get!
Lucas Powers is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Powers tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Burks swivels and escapes.
Sherman Burks has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Lucas Powers.
Powers is breathing heavily.

Powers jumps guard but Burks turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
Powers gets underhooks to prevent Burks's takedown attempt.

Powers pulls guard effortlessly.

Burks gets to his feet - Powers follows without any prompting.
Powers fails with a takedown attempt.

Burks looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.

Burks seems to be working for a kimura but Powers defends the submission attempt.
Powers tries to regain full guard. Instead though, Burks has advanced to mount. Uh oh.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Burks working for a guillotine from mount but Powers is in no mood to give up.
Powers really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Burks. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Burks working to secure an arm triangle but it's not happening for him just yet.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Burks landing strikes, looking to finish!
Powers taking shots to the head.
Powers is looking to improve his position but Burks isn't that keen on the idea.
Burks lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
Powers is trying desperately to improve position.
Burks lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.

Burks is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Powers can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
Burks in mount throwing good strikes here, bouncing his opponent's head off the canvas.
Sherman Burks overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Burks prevents Powers from getting the reversal.
Burks raining down hammerfists from mount.
Powers tries to hold on but Burks pushes him away.
Powers is working to get back to half guard.

Burks quickly switches position and commits to an armbar! It's a big risk for Burks but it's paid off an Powers is forced to tap! Nice work by Burks.
