PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Farouk Al Ahwei (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Aznar Thrul (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Al Ahwei comes to the cage accompanied by Whirling Madness. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 2 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Farouk Al Ahwei!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 23 - 25 - 2, fighting out of Las Vegas, Aznar Thrul!
The judges for this bout are Stewart Dunkirk, Gwen Towbar and Cecil Peabody.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Good shot there by Al Ahwei.
A slow jab from Al Ahwei misses its intended target.
Thrul tries a quick counter leg kick but Al Ahwei is wise to it.
Al Ahwei dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Nice body kick there by Thrul.
Thrul takes one to the side of the head.
Thrul lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.
Al Ahwei scoring well with a low kick there.
Thrul blocks a low kick nicely.
Al Ahwei blocks a head kick by Thrul.
Al Ahwei throws a body kick that misses.
Thrul misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
A nice leg kick lands there from Al Ahwei.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Thrul is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.
Al Ahwei looks to land a left hand but Thrul moved out of range nicely.
Al Ahwei slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.

Al Ahwei looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Thrul is fending him off so far but Al Ahwei persists. Nope, Thrul circles away and we're back to standing.

Thrul has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Al Ahwei.

Al Ahwei shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.

Al Ahwei swings and misses with a hook to the body.

and Thrul counters with a head kick.

Al Ahwei gets caught flat footed, as Thrul shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Thrul pushes down on Al Ahwei's leg and manages to get into half guard.

Thrul is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

Thrul is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.
Al Ahwei's coaches at The Wild Beasts Zoo have been working on his defensive grappling in preparation for this fight so let's see if he can get out of this tricky position.
Thrul passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Al Ahwei!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Al Ahwei slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.
Al Ahwei is looking for a sweep. Thrul is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Thrul is thwarting Al Ahwei's attempts to control the position.

Al Ahwei is looking to improve his position.
Al Ahwei manages to get to full guard.
Thrul postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Al Ahwei might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Thrul controls from within his opponent's guard.

Al Ahwei is looking for a triangle but Thrul pushes his legs off easily.
Thrul throws a strike but Al Ahwei rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.


That's four minutes gone in the round.
Thrul looking for a sweep. Not yet Thrul, not yet.
Al Ahwei stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Thrul swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Thrul tries to strike from the bottom.
Al Ahwei looking to sit in guard and control but Thrul gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Al Ahwei is pulling down on Thrul's head. It's preventing any offense from Thrul, at least for the moment.

Al Ahwei is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Thrul is aware though and is defending well.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Farouk Al Ahwei will probably get the nod.
That's time! Al Ahwei's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!

Thrul looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it.
Al Ahwei goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
Al Ahwei ducks under a wild hook from Thrul.
Al Ahwei tried to counter with a leg kick but Thrul avoided it.

And an attempted straight right on the counter from Thrul! But no joy.
Al Ahwei throws a body punch but Thrul moves out of range.
Farouk Al Ahwei seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Al Ahwei tries to clinch there but Thrul circles away.
Thrul throws out a loose jab but Al Ahwei uses good head movement to avoid it.
Thrul cracks Al Ahwei with an open hand slap.
Thrul staying out of range there.
Thrul paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.
Farouk Al Ahwei is winning the standup battle so far.
Thrul jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Al Ahwei changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Good leg kick by Thrul there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
Thrul works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.
Al Ahwei slips a jab from Thrul.

Al Ahwei throws a wild body kick that Thrul sees coming a mile off.
Thrul swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made.
Thrul takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.

Al Ahwei connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Thrul's hands.
Thrul steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Al Ahwei.
Al Ahwei lands a right hook to the body.
Thrul pulls out of a head kick attempt.
The crowd cheers as Thrul lands an impressive looking overhand right. Al Ahwei doesn't seem phased though.

and Thrul counters with a nice kick to the body.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Thrul.

Thrul moves into range and connects with a jab.

Al Ahwei connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Al Ahwei displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Thrul throws out the jab.
Al Ahwei swung with a counter punch to the body but it didn't connect.
Al Ahwei lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range.
Thrul takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.

Al Ahwei clinches up against the cage.
Al Ahwei jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Thrul walks away with a smile on his face. Al Ahwei gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Thud! ouch! good body kick from Thrul - that will leave a mark!

and Thrul counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Thrul cracks the inside of Al Ahwei's front leg.
Thrul needs to keep his hands up - Al Ahwei had a free shot at his head there.
Thrul takes a shot right to the bread basket.
Al Ahwei misses the jab.
Al Ahwei misses the shot to the body.
Thrul lands with a slapping head kick.
Thrul fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Al Ahwei.

Al Ahwei connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.
Al Ahwei throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Thrul on the side of the head.

and Thrul connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Al Ahwei lands with a nice body punch.
Al Ahwei avoids the head kick by Thrul.
Al Ahwei throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Al Ahwei moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.
Thrul ducks under a wild hook from Al Ahwei.
Thrul swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.

Thrul throws the left hand but Al Ahwei avoids the punch easily.
Al Ahwei swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect.
Al Ahwei swats away the attempt to clinch by Thrul.
Al Ahwei moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.

Thrul throws a shot from downtown. Al Ahwei moves away and avoids it.
Thrul walks into a stiff left hand from Al Ahwei.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Al Ahwei crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Thrul - the referee stops the clock and Al Ahwei gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Thrul. Al Ahwei manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.
Al Ahwei dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Thrul. That did some damage!
Al Ahwei throws out a powerful jab.

Al Ahwei gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Thrul to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Thrul keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Al Ahwei's head.
Thrul looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
The crowd applaud the fighters' efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Thrul distracts Al Ahwei with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Aznar Thrul.
I have no idea who won that fight. Let's wait and see whether the judges are as confused as me! Time for a split decision perhaps?!. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
