The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Vermeer misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Bishop.
Bishop was looking to counter that last move with a shot to the body but he didn't commit.
Vermeer closes the distance and clinches.
Bishop lands a short shot on the inside that snaps the head of Vermeer backwards.
Bishop gets a nice trip takedown into half guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Bishop is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
Bishop wants to pass to mount but Vermeer is defending the position.
Bishop seems to be working for a kimura but Vermeer defends the submission attempt.
Bishop passes to side control.

Vermeer is looking to get back to his feet here but Bishop is keeping cool and he's managed to take Vermeer's back.
Vermeer wants to control his opponent's hands but Bishop gets his hands free.
