Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Renzo Alves (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Hugo Wolf (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Alves scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard. Wolf misses with a takedown and Alves counters with a nice double leg into side control. Wolf won't be happy with that. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Alves trying to control the action but Wolf is working from the bottom. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Wolf had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Alves defends it easily. Alves landing some decent shots from guard. There's a bit of a scramble here and now Wolf is on top in guard.

That was a close round but I would say that Renzo Alves will probably get the nod. That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Alves stands up over Wolf, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head. Alves throws a 1-2 combo that connects squarely on Wolf's jaw, knocking him onto his back! Alves dives in looking to finish as Wolf flails his arms in a desperate attempt to block Alves 's strikes! Alves is raining down hammerfists and the ref stops it! Wolf's desperate flailing just didn't constitute intelligent defence. Some people will probably question the ref's decision but Wolf was definitely hurt and the ref saved him from taking unnecessary punishment. A fighter's safety is paramount in this sport.
