PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Arthur Beard (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jimmy Lupo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Lupo's choice of entrance music: Redemption Song - Bob Marley. Jimmy Lupo has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Jimmy Lupo!
The judges for this bout are Jeff Smith, Ryoma Takatsuka and Micheangelo Fripello.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Lupo gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
enabling Beard to counter with a crisp jab.
Beard really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Beard moves into range and clinches up with Lupo.

Beard escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

and Beard counters with a three punch combo that has Lupo backing up. Lupo nods at Beard to acknowledge the strikes.

Beard breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Beard tries a head kick but it misses.
Lupo drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Beard defends it well.
Beard throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Arthur Beard has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jimmy Lupo.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Lupo shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Beard is trying to defend but Lupo finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

Lupo is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Beard has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Lupo is working away from the top position though.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Lupo lands a nice short elbow.
Lupo wants to lay and pray for a moment but Beard keeps working.

Lupo tries to pass the half guard into mount. Beard knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

Beard has a hand on Lupo's thigh, trying to get back to full guard. Lupo takes advantage of the position though and mounts him!

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Beard tries to hold on but Lupo pushes him away.

Beard wants to control but Lupo is having none of it.
Beard gets back to half guard.
Lupo is thwarting Beard's attempts to control the position.
Lupo is controlling the pace.
It looks like Lupo might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Beard wants to control but Lupo is keeping busy.

Lupo is working for a submission here. He's got hold of the far side arm and he's looking for a kimura. He's cranking on the arm and he's got it! Beard is tapping out! Ouch, that looked like it hurt!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:50 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Jimmy Lupo!
A very excited looking Jimmy Lupo rambled incoherently for about 5 minutes post fight about how awesome he is. It was kinda funny for a while but then everyone got annoyed.
