Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Karl Se!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Johnny Tanaka!
The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Don Winkell and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Tanaka gets off balance looking for a body kick
and Se connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Se shoots in looking for a takedown but Tanaka manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Se's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
A combination from Se does no damage.
Tanaka avoids the head kick by Se.
Karl Se seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Se takes a head kick and keeps coming.
A punch combination from Tanaka misses.
Tanaka avoids the head kick by Se.
Se connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.
Tanaka misses with a wild body shot.

Se forces Tanaka back against the cage and clinches.

Se breaks from the clinch.
Tanaka throws a head kick but Se moves out of range.

Se's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Se chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Tanaka can pounce on him.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Se lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.
Se tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Tanaka paws at him with a jab and circles away.
A slapping leg kick lands for Tanaka.
Tanaka misses the jab.
Tanaka misses with a body shot.
Se scores with a nice strike.

Tanaka throws a mid kick that lands with a slap.

Se forces Tanaka back against the cage and clinches.
Se can't break the clinch.

Se breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Tanaka scores with a leg kick.
Tanaka takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
Tanaka throws a big shot that misses.
Se connects with the punch.
Tanaka lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.
Jab, cross, leg kick. Nice combination by Se!


Tanaka is rocked!
Se moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.
Tanaka is still on wobbly legs! Can Se finish him?
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Tanaka throws a leg kick but Se sees it coming and moves out of range.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Tanaka is looking to score with low kicks.
As Tanaka looks to move away, Se throws a big counter combo but Tanaka just gets out of the way.

Se closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Tanaka's guard.
Se wants to control from the top but Tanaka keeps moving.
Tanaka manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Se manages to get himself to full guard.

Tanaka looks winded!
Se trying to control the position.
Se tries to strike from the bottom.
Tanaka seems to have recovered his senses.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Se is pulling down on Tanaka's head. It's preventing any offense from Tanaka, at least for the moment.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Karl Se dominated that round.
That's time! Se's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Tanaka goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
Se plants his feet and lands a nice head kick!

The fight moves into the clinch position.
A frustrated look appears on Tanaka's face as he tries to break the clinch.

Se breaks from the clinch.
Tanaka feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Ses jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!
Tanaka misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Se.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Se misses with a few strikes there.
Se plants his feet and lands a nice head kick!
Tanaka ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Se moves away.
Se looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.

Tanaka tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Se was well out of range. Poor timing from Tanaka.
Karl Se is winning the standup battle so far.

Se has closed the distance and engaged Tanaka in a clinch.

Tanaka tries to move into range but Se moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.

Se throws a series of punches but Tanaka moves out of range.
Se tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Tanaka manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Se shoots in for a double leg but Tanaka sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Tanaka looks like he wants to counter punch here.
Se moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.
Tanaka swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Tanaka throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
enabling Se to counter with a crisp jab.

Se breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Se lands a head kick!
Tanaka fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
Tanaka connects with the punch.
Tanaka takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.
Se looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Tanaka is fending him off so far but Se persists. Nope, Tanaka circles away and we're back to standing.
Tanaka throws a counter combo.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Karl Se. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Se pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Tanaka is loading up here, looking for a big counter of his own.
Se connects with a right hand. Tanaka shakes it off.

Se clinches up against the cage.
Se wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Tanaka has him pressed against the cage.
A frustrated look appears on Se's face as he tries to break the clinch.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Karl Se dominated that second round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Tanaka steps to his left, right into the path of a big body kick from Se. That one must have hurt.
Se goes for a double leg but Tanaka avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Tanaka continues to drive forward.
Tanaka connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
Se tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Tanaka paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Tanaka looks to score with a jab to the body but Se is just out of range.
Tanaka is throwing a lot of body shots here, looking to wear down Se rather than just go for the knockout.
Se misses with a few strikes there.

Se gets in close and instigates a clinch.

Se escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Se fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Tanaka! But no joy.

Se closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Tanaka's guard.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Se accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Tanaka wants to sweep but no luck.
Se advances position into side control!
The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.
We've been hearing good reports from Se's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.
Se trying to control the action but Tanaka is working from the bottom.

Se wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Tanaka, who protects the arm well.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Tanaka takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head.
Se trying to control the action but Tanaka is working from the bottom.
Se connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Tanaka some visible discomfort.

Tanaka is being controlled here.
Tanaka prevents Se from moving into mount.
The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.
You can see the frustration on Tanaka's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Tanaka takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Se wants to control but Tanaka is keeping him busy.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Tanaka misses with a right hand
and Se counters with a straight punch to the midsection.
Karl Se is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Se scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.

Se stalks Tanaka and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Tanaka's face. Tanaka staggers backwards, shaken.
Se tries to land a front kick but Tanaka steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
Se thuds his right hand into Tanaka's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.
Tanaka throws a sloppy body shot
and Se counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Se lands with a shot to the body.
Johnny Tanaka has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Se is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Tanaka can do to turn this around?

Well Se has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
