Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
4 - 0 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Rayder Garner! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Eddie Hughs! The judges for this bout are Alec Ball, Yves DeLean and Elvis Blanc.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Hughs displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Garner. Hughs misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Garner.
Garner fires out a quick counter leg kick but Hughs just manages to avoid it. Hughs fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Garner manages to avoid it. A head kick misses from Hughs. Garner shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Hughs as he avoids it easily. Hughs drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Garner defends it well. Garner fails to land the takedown. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Rayder Garner. That's going to take a lot out of him. A low kick from Hughs is predictable there so Garner counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility. Hughs looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Garner puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Garner seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense. Hughs gets full guard. Hughs wants to sweep but no luck.
That's one minute gone in the round. Hughs keeps trying to improve his position. Garner postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Hughs is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Garner, into his guard. Hughs wants to control from the top but Garner keeps moving. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Hughs postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. Hughs is fighting to break Garner's control of his arms but Garner is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment. Hughs trying to control but Garner is working from the bottom.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Garner seems keen to control Hughs's posture. Garner is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Hughs looking to sit in guard and control but Garner gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Hughs really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Garner. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Garner stays in close to Hughs's body and controls the position. The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Garner trying to control but Hughs is working from the bottom.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity. Hughs throws a leg kick and Garner counters with a nice leg kick. Hughs misses with a body shot.

Garner throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Hughs tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Garner is in Hughs's guard. Rayder Garner dominated that round. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.
Garner is trying hard to land a takedown here. Hughs sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet. Garner's jab looks to have found its range, popping Hughs under the eye. Hughs swings for the body but Garner moves out of range.
Garner fails to land the takedown. A looping hook to the body misses from Garner. Hughs does a little dance to reset his feet. Garner blocks a head kick by Hughs.

Garner is trying to defend but Hughs finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further. Garner is in close to Hughs's body, working some short punches and elbows. Garner lands a couple of decent looking shots. Hughs keeping moving, preventing Garner from controlling successfully. Garner postures up and lands some nice ground and pound. Hammerfist, elbow! yells Garner's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
That's two minutes gone in the round. Garner is in close to Hughs's body, working some short punches and elbows. Hughs is looking to sweep but instead, Garner has passed into half guard.
Hughs is breathing heavily. Garner lands with a punch from half guard. Hughs tries to roll over but Garner keeps him under control. The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Garner connects with a nice short shot to Hughs's temple. Hughs has hold of Garner's hands but Garner slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow. The referee calls for the fighters to work.

Garner slips a nice elbow through Hughs's hands, connecting with Hughs's forehead. Garner lands strikes from half guard. Hughs has a hand on Garner's thigh, trying to get back to full guard. Garner takes advantage of the position though and mounts him!
That's three minutes gone in the round. Garner raining down shots from the mount! Garner unloading with bombs! We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Hughs can do anything to dispel that myth. Hughs taking shots to the head. Garner is in the full mount, landing strikes. Garner tries to control but Hughs wriggling away. Garner lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Hughs hang on? Garner is in the full mount, landing strikes. Garner punishing his opponent with strikes. Garner lands a big elbow.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Garner unloads with some vicious shots from mount and Hughs wants out - he looks towards the referee who steps in to save him! Garner celebrates on the cage and the crowd goes wild!

After the fight, Rayder Garner was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
