Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Joe Lau! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jake Rome! The judges for this bout are Alec Ball, Gregory Folan and Dillan Fox.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Rome fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Lau to the ground. Rome is now in Lau's guard. Rome is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position. Lau is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Rome sitting in guard here, content to control. Rome is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact. Lau is trying to keep Rome in close.
Rome wants to control from the top but Lau keeps moving. Lau on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Lau tries to get out of the position. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Rome is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control. The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring. Rome throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Lau works some decent striking defense from the bottom. Rome stands up over Lau, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head. Rome postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
That's one minute gone in the round. Lau keeping moving, preventing Rome from controlling successfully. Rome controlling from the top position. Rome won't allow Lau to sweep him here. There's a bit of a scramble here and now Lau is on top in guard.
Rome looking to hit a scissor sweep but Lau is one step ahead there. Rome is looking to cinch up a triangle. Lau throws the leg off to one side though and gets in tight to Rome's body to avoid the submission. Rome has instead reached around Lau's neck and now has a guillotine! Oh, this is biiiig trouble! Rome arches his back and squeezes and forces the tap from his hapless opponent.
