PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Randy The Ripper (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jack Hammer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 4 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Randy The Ripper!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Jack Hammer!
The judges for this bout are James Atkins, Chris Edwards and Colin Fotheringham.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hammer ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Hammer throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Hammer uses good head movement to avoid the hook from The Ripper.

Hammer has closed the distance and engaged The Ripper in a clinch.
The Ripper managing to block the knees to the body from Hammer.
The Ripper could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
The Ripper drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Hammer gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Hammer fails to pull guard.

The Ripper breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
The Ripper throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick.
Hammer scores with a one two! The Ripper had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.
The Ripper shoots and misses
and Hammer counters with a big head kick but The Ripper shrugs it off.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

The Ripper tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Hammer swivels and escapes.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Randy The Ripper. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Hammer lands with a nice combination. The Ripper backs away looking to recover.

Hammer avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
The Ripper is breathing heavily.
The Ripper shoots in for a double leg but Hammer sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Hammer shoots in looking for a takedown. The Ripper tries to sprawl out of it but Hammer keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. The Ripper manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Hammer lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.
The Ripper has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Hammer finds it's way round the side to connect with The Ripper's head.
The Ripper throws an overhand right that lands on Hammer's shoulder, as Hammer tries to avoid the shot.
Hammer lands with a nice combination. The Ripper backs away looking to recover.

The Ripper gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Hammer wanted to stand there but The Ripper had control of the position.

Hammer gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Hammer fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. The Ripper looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Hammer turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.
Randy The Ripper seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Hammer fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Hammer throws a right and a left that The Ripper avoids nicely.
Hammer fails to land with a series of punches.

The Ripper scores a takedown into full mount!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Hammer holding onto his opponent's waist for dear life, as The Ripper tries to land some strikes to get him to release his grip.

The Ripper trying to control but Hammer is having none of it.
You get the feeling that Hammer really doesn't like being in this position too much.
Hammer tries to lock up and control but The Ripper gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
The Ripper misses with a head shot.

The Ripper wants to finish this one by submission but Hammer is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from The Ripper.
The Ripper avoids the attempt from Hammer to control.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
The Ripper can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Hammer is looking to escape.
Hammer wants to control but The Ripper is having none of it.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

The Ripper is working for a guillotine from mount but Hammer frees his head quite easily.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jack Hammer dominated that round.
That's time! The Ripper's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Hammer scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.

and Hammer counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.

The Ripper drags the fight down to the ground.

The Ripper has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Hammer can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
The Ripper working a defensive guard but Hammer manages to pass into side control anyway.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Hammer postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
Hammer wants to stand but The Ripper is controlling his arm.
The Ripper tries to bench press Hammer off him but Hammer keeps the position.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.
Hammer tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily.
Hammer is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down The Ripper's shoulder. That is not cool.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Hammer stands up.
The Ripper misses with a combination

and Hammer counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
The Ripper wants a takedown but no success here.
The Ripper wants to break free but Hammer has control.
The Ripper wants to break the clinch but can't.

The Ripper jumps into guard, dragging Hammer to the mat.
Hammer must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

The Ripper throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.
The Ripper manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Hammer manages to get himself to full guard.

The Ripper drops back, looking for a kneebar! Hammer looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Hammer looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Hammer!

Hammer stands up and we're back to a striking position.
Nice uppercut lands for Hammer. That snapped The Ripper's head back.

A chopping leg kick lands by Hammer.
Hammer fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
The step up in weight doesn't seem to be a problem for Hammer. He's performing admirably here against the bigger man.
Hammer dodges the punch combination from The Ripper.
The Ripper misses with a takedown
and Hammer counters with a thumping low kick.
Hammer looks to land a combination but The Ripper avoids it well.
No joy there for Hammer, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

Hammer bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Hammer stands up and beckons The Ripper to his feet.

The Ripper closes the distance and clinches up with Hammer, looking for a takedown. The Ripper pushes Hammer against the cage but Hammer circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jack Hammer showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

and Hammer counters with a single leg into guard. The Ripper didn't expect that.

Hammer with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.

Hammer wants to stand and escape but instead The Ripper has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.
Hammer controls The Ripper momentarily but The Ripper frees himself.

The Ripper drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Hammer dives on top into guard.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

The Ripper loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

The Ripper stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Hammer swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Hammer wants to stand and escape but The Ripper is having none of it.
Hammer is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.
Hammer is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Hammer stands up from The Ripper's guard - Hammer perhaps looking for a knockout.

Hammer rushes The Ripper and presses him up against the cage.
The Ripper jumps guard but Hammer stands there with The Ripper around his waist. The Ripper gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
The Ripper tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Hammer just stands there and leans against the cage.
Hammer wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but The Ripper has him pressed against the cage.
Hammer is pressed up against the cage. The Ripper has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Hammer down to the mat. Hammer avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
The Ripper throws a jab but it's blocked by Hammer.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jack Hammer really dominated that round.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!


The Ripper shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Hammer throws a series of punches but The Ripper moves out of range.

enabling Hammer to counter with a crisp jab.
It's got to the stage where if one of these guys blows hard enough, the other might fall over.

Hammer shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Hammer was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Hammer has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Hammer is landing with some decent strikes but The Ripper is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
The Ripper working to try and regain half guard.
Hammer looking to control but The Ripper is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
The Ripper is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Hammer thowing shots but they're missing.
The Ripper is desperately trying to improve his position but Hammer has a good base and remains in mount.
Randy The Ripper has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

The Ripper slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.
The Ripper works his way to full guard. Good work.

The Ripper working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Hammer doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Hammer manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
The Ripper wants to control the position but Hammer says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard.

The Ripper tries to get to full guard but Hammer has control of the leg.
The Ripper is trying to maintain the position but Hammer is very close to passing his half guard.
Hammer is trying to get back to his feet now but his leg is trapped.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Hammer stalks The Ripper and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into The Ripper's face. The Ripper staggers backwards, shaken.

And that's the end of the fight!
Jack Hammer comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Hammer has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
