PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Rickey Bean (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dom Reed (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The key to victory for Rickey Bean has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Rickey Bean!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Dom Reed!
The judges for this bout are Richard Clark, Paul Tew and James Atkins.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bean shoots in but no luck this time.
Reed swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Reed rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Bean moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Bean throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Reed's waist but Reed gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Bean off to one side.
Bean could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Bean displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Reed.

Reed closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Bean quickly recovers to half guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Reed trying to mount his opponent but Bean defends it.
Reed controlling the action here.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Reed looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Bean with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Reed stands up from half guard.

Reed fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Bean, pushing him back against the cage.

Reed turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Reed manages to end up in side control.

Bean throws his opponent off and manages to get back to his feet! Nicely done!
Reed shoots in and drives through. Bean sprawls well.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Reed is defended easily by Bean.
Rickey Bean has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Dom Reed.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Reed looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Bean is fending him off so far but Reed persists. Nope, Bean circles away and we're back to standing.
Bean throws a big counter combination but Reed scrambles out of danger and avoids any damage.

Reed has managed to clinch.
Bean landing knees to the body.

Bean is fighting off a takedown attempt but Reed is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Bean to the mat. Bean regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.
Reed has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Bean looking for a sweep. Not yet Bean, not yet.

Bean is controlling Reed's posture.

Reed drops back looking for a leg! Bean is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Bean manages to kick Reed off! Reed jumps back into Bean's guard.
Reed preventing the sweep.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Reed throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Bean tries to score a power double leg takedown but Reed sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Bean somewhat.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Reed lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Bean backs up against the cage.


It looks like Rickey Bean has been cut.
Some wild striking there from Reed.
Reed misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Bean.
Bean attempts a counter takedown but Reed avoids it well and moves away.
Reed gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Bean counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Dom Reed dominated that round.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!



Bean tries to keep at a distance but Reed has taken the fight into the clinch.

Bean fails with a takedown attempt.
Reed shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Bean sprawls well. Bean wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Reed gets slowly back to his feet.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Reed shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Bean counters with a series of strikes. Reed will be more careful next time no doubt.

Reed swings for the body but Bean moves out of range.
Reed tries a head kick but it misses.

Reed moves into the clinch.
Bean lands a damaging elbow.

Reed tightens his grip and picks Bean up, before dumping him to the ground. Bean manages to land in guard.
Bean keeping full guard, as Reed tries to pass.
Reed trying to control but Bean is working from the bottom.
Reed won't allow Bean to get back to his feet.

Reed stands up from Bean's guard - Reed perhaps looking for a knockout.
Reed stuffs the takedown.
Reed misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Bean is looking to counter the offense by Reed and move into the clinch.
Rickey Bean has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Dom Reed.

Reed drives through with a takedown into guard.
Bean wants to get back to his feet but Reed passes into half guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Reed wants to lay and pray for a moment but Bean keeps working.
Bean is looking to control Reed's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Bean avoid being mounted?

Reed content to control rather than advance.
Bean wants to improve his position but Reed is controlling well.
Reed working to pass to mount. He's got his hand pressing down on Bean's thigh. Bean counters though and makes it back to full guard.
Reed trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Reed controlling from the top position.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Reed wants to stand but Bean is controlling his posture from full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Dom Reed showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

That's time! Bean's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!

Bean tries to score a body lock takedown but Reed shows good agility there to stay on his feet.

Reed avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Bean accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Bean has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Reed is proving hard to escape from.
Reed controls Bean momentarily but Bean frees himself.
Reed is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Bean trying to hold on to Reed's head to control him but Reed postures up.
Bean is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Reed stalling.
Reed lands with a punch from half guard.
It looks like Reed is going to stand back up.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Reed is trying to control. Bean wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Bean trying to keep hold of his opponent's head but Reed manages to pass to mount!
Reed tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Reed is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Bean can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
Reed controlling the position easily from mount.
Reed has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Reed trying to control but Bean is having none of it.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Reed looking to control and managing it successfully.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Dom Reed comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Reed has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
