PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Clemente Marsh (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jake Rome (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The key to victory for Clemente Marsh has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Clemente Marsh!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jake Rome!
The judges for this bout are Alec Ball, Trevor Gratis and Yves DeLean.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Rome fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Marsh to the ground. Rome is now in Marsh's guard.
Rome controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Marsh really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Marsh looking to control.
Rome connects with a couple of short punches.
Marsh controls Rome momentarily but Rome frees himself.
Rome lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Marsh being controlled here, momentarily.

Rome pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Marsh is keeping the position for now.
Rome content to stall in guard here.
Rome throwing strikes from guard but Marsh blocks nicely.
Rome slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Rome wants to pass the guard but Marsh is keeping the position.
Marsh is trying to keep Rome in close.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Rome.
Rome has control of an arm but Marsh manages to advance to Rome's back!
Marsh has the hooks in. Rome is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.

Marsh is persistently looking for the submission but Rome is defending it well.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Rome tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell!

Rome sneaks a leg under to get to half guard.
Rome is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment.

Marsh wants to work for an arm triangle but Rome is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Marsh looks to land a strike but Rome avoids it nicely and regains full guard.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Rome looking for a sweep. Not yet Rome, not yet.
Rome keeps trying to improve his position.
Rome looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Marsh trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jake Rome dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!



Rome scores with a takedown into Marsh's guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Marsh can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Rome controls the pace.

Rome's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Jake Rome has got the better of the ground game so far.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Marsh has momentary wrist control but Rome slips an elbow through the middle.
Rome slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Rome is continuing to stall.

Marsh is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Rome works his way to full guard. Good work.

Rome escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Marsh gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Rome is adopting a defensive guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Marsh working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Rome lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Rome tries to free his leg and advance position but Marsh is retaining full guard.
Rome stands up over Marsh, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Rome is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Rome is breathing heavily.
Rome's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Marsh is trying to control the position but Rome postures up.

Rome stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Marsh swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Marsh not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Rome throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Marsh was covering up waiting for the punch and Rome finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Rome is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Marsh wants to sweep here but Rome controlling him for the moment.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Marsh manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Rome manages to get himself to full guard.

Marsh is looking to work some ground and pound but Rome has wrist control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jake Rome showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!



Rome is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Marsh's half guard.
Rome passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Marsh!
Marsh tries to hold on but Rome pushes him away.

Rome pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
Rome lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
Marsh is looking to improve his position but Rome isn't that keen on the idea.
Rome controlling the pace for now.
Rome takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Rome with more of the same as he continues to hold on.
The referee warns Marsh that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
Rome landing punches.
Marsh is working to get back to half guard.
Rome sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
Marsh is desperately trying to get back to half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Rome is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Marsh can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
Rome lands a couple of good shots and Marsh has given up his back, trying to escape the position!
Marsh turns into Rome and is now in his guard.
Marsh has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Marsh is fighting to break Rome's control of his arms but Rome is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Marsh postures up in Rome's guard and throws a big left but Rome blocks it.

Jake Rome comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Rome has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
