PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Tomas Pacheco (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Diego Batard (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Diego Batard will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Tomas Pacheco!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Diego Batard!
The judges for this bout are Sam Margolis, Steven Brown and Andrew Berry.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Batard tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Pacheco manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Batard keeps Pacheco at a distance using the push kick.
Batard shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Pacheco but Pacheco pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Batard drives through and clinches with Pacheco against the cage.
A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.

Batard manages to pull guard.
Batard looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Batard trying to keep a closed guard but Pacheco is proving a slippery customer.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Pacheco slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

Batard is looking to stand back up but Pacheco counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Batard.

No luck for Batard with that takedown attempt.
It looked like Pacheco was trying to counter with a body shot coming off that last attack from Batard.

Batard darts in and clinches Pacheco up against the cage.
Batard blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.

Batard's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Pacheco avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
It looked like Pacheco was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.
Batard lands a jab to Pacheco's midsection.
Diego Batard seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Pacheco has Batard pressed against the cage, preventing Batard from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
Pacheco really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Batard is trying to pull guard but Pacheco turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.

Pacheco is working for takedown but Batard is calmly controlling the position for now.

Batard fails to pull guard.
Batard tries to pull guard but Pacheco forces him back to his feet, against the cage.
Pacheco throws a punch but it's blocked by Batard.
Batard has Pacheco pushed against the cage.
Batard is trying to break the clinch but Pacheco is controlling him.

Batard drops down looking for an ankle pick but Pacheco pulls his leg out and moves away.
Batard tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Batard tries to close the distance and clinch but Pacheco swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Pacheco is looking to counter with a shot to the body.
Horrible takedown attempt by Pacheco or perhaps it was just good defense by Batard, which made it look bad.

Jab, cross, leg kick. Nice combination by Batard!
Batard throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Batard shoots for a double leg takedown but Pacheco sprawls well. He's pushed Batard's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Pacheco is defended easily by Batard.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Pacheco stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Pacheco wants it to stay on the feet.

Batard gets in close and instigates a clinch.
A short body shot lands from Batard as the two fighters clinch.

Pacheco turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!
Batard tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Pacheco wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
A lull in the action here as Pacheco stalls from top position.

Pacheco decides to stand back up. Pacheco steps back and let's Batard get back to his feet.

Batard has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Pacheco swats away the attempt to clinch by Batard.
Pacheco looked to counter that last move with a leg kick but didn't pull the trigger.

Pacheco's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
Batard has a hand on Pacheco's thigh, trying to get back to full guard. Pacheco takes advantage of the position though and mounts him!

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!

Batard closes the distance and clinches.
Batard lands on the inside with an uppercut.
Batard misses with a shot to the kidneys.
Pacheco is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage.

Pacheco has Batard pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Pacheco pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Batard tumbling to the mat - Pacheco dives into Batard's guard.

Pacheco has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

Pacheco takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Batard tries to lock up and control but Pacheco gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Pacheco content just to control the position here.
Batard tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Pacheco takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Pacheco has isolated one of Batard's arms. Batard looking to fight him off but Pacheco twists into an armbar. It's tight... Will he tap?? YES, he's tapped! This one is all over!
