PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Hai Hicks (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bailey Brooks (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Brooks has chosen Frozen Theme Song as his entrance music. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Hai Hicks!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Bailey Brooks!
The judges for this bout are Konstantin Menshow, Igor Prikhodko and Vladimir Khabensky.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Brooks drives through and clinches with Hicks against the cage.
Hicks is trying to maintain a safe position but Brooks gets an underhook and turns Hicks into the cage.

Brooks has picked Hicks up - he's going for a ride! Brooks dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.

Hicks pushes Brooks off and gets back to his feet.

Brooks shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Hicks manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Brooks got a little sloppy there for a moment and Hicks has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Brooks has managed to get both his arms back between Hicks's legs - danger averted.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Hicks has his foot on Brooks's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Brooks works his way back into a safe position though.

Hicks can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Brooks controls the pace.
Brooks is pushing down on Hicks's leg trying to pass to half guard. Hicks is fighting to maintain full guard but Brooks has managed to sneak the leg through.

Brooks is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
It looks like Brooks is going to stand back up.
Brooks is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
Hicks is looking for a sweep. Brooks is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Brooks looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Brooks working over Hicks with some ground and pound. Hicks looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.

Brooks is trying to work for a kimura but Hicks is defending well.
Brooks wants to stand up but Hicks has a hold of him and won't allow it.
Brooks prevents Hicks from improving his position.
Brooks seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.

Hicks tries to lock up and control but Brooks gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Brooks controlling the position easily from mount.
Let's hope that Brooks has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Brooks swings for the body but Hicks moves out of range.
As Brooks looks to move away, Hicks throws a big counter combo but Brooks just gets out of the way.

Brooks moves into range and clinches up with Hicks.

Brooks ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Brooks no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Brooks can do anything to dispel that myth.
Brooks has his hands on Hicks's head, controlling the position.
Hicks throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Brooks has momentary wrist control but Hicks slips an elbow through the middle.

Hicks might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Brooks lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.
Hicks can't escape the position.
Brooks has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Brooks manages to capitalize on a mistake by Hicks to take his back!

Hicks is trying to remain composed but Brooks is hammering down strikes to the side of his head.

Brooks is remaining active here, looking for the choke. The more discerning members of the crowd will appreciate his efforts.
