Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Lu Wai Ping (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ricky Monroe (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Wai Ping comes to the cage accompanied by Once upon a time in China. Monroe is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Deep Ocean - Island drumming. The key to victory for Lu Wai Ping has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

17 - 11 - 2, fighting out of Tokyo, Ricky Monroe!
The judges for this bout are Kenichi Hosakawa, Shirou Masuda and Hirohito Nitta.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Monroe fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Wai Ping avoids it really well and circles away.
Monroe fails to land with a series of punches.
Monroe shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Wai Ping's guard.

Wai Ping avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Monroe has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Wai Ping is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Monroe.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Lu Wai Ping has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ricky Monroe.

Monroe manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Wai Ping on his heels. He'll look to pass Wai Ping's guard now, I'm sure.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Monroe accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close round but I would say that Lu Wai Ping will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.
Wai Ping lands a jab-cross combination.
Ricky Monroe is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Monroe takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
Wai Ping tries to clinch there but Monroe circles away.

Wai Ping pushes Monroe up against the cage in a clinch.
Monroe jumps guard but Wai Ping stands there with Monroe around his waist. Monroe gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Monroe had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Wai Ping defends it easily.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Monroe seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.

Monroe lands a massive shot from half guard that has rocked Wai Ping! More strikes land and this one is all over! Monroe jumps to his feet and is applauded loudly by the crowd!
