Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
6 - 11 - 0, fighting out of London, William McDougal! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Alvar Czarzsa! The judges for this bout are Albert Achterberg, Radbod Blank and Patrick Alders.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Czarzsa throws a combination. McDougal tries to block but a couple of punches get through. McDougal is looking to clinch. Czarzsa misses with the combination.
McDougal shoots in and drives through. Czarzsa sprawls well. Czarzsa scores with a body shot.
McDougal throws a front kick that sends Czarzsa stumbling back into the cage. Czarzsa feints and as McDougal raises his hands in defense, Czarzsa changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard. We've been hearing good reports from McDougal's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today. McDougal avoiding any damage from the ground and pound. McDougal tries to land a sweep but no joy. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Czarzsa wants to pass the guard but McDougal is keeping the position. Czarzsa won't allow McDougal to sweep him here. Czarzsa trying to control the position from guard on top but McDougal is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Czarzsa pushes down on McDougal's leg and manages to get into half guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Czarzsa works his way into full mount! Czarzsa looking to ground and pound but McDougal is blocking nicely. Czarzsa looking to control but McDougal is working nicely, looking to advance position himself. Czarzsa dominating with strikes here. McDougal regains half guard. Czarzsa frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount. Czarzsa throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for McDougal because Czarzsa loaded up on that one. Czarzsa with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
That's two minutes gone in the round. McDougal is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
McDougal looking to escape from mount but he's given up his back! McDougal rolls, trying to escape but Czarzsa keeps control of the position.
Czarzsa is working for the choke. He's slipped one arm under the chin. McDougal has to defend the other arm for all he's worth... but Czarzsa has managed to get that arm free too and he's tightening the choke! McDougal taps out and looks absolutely disgusted with himself. Czarzsa doesn't care though - he's delighted!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:50 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Alvar Czarzsa! A very excited looking Alvar Czarzsa made sure he remembered to thank all the fans both in the arena and on the internet. He said all the coolest people spend all day on MMA websites, which got a big reaction.
