Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Davy Gustafson! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Hannibal Barca! The judges for this bout are Radbod Blank, Daniel Blasius and Aafke Stam.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Barca lands a right hook to the body.
Barca gets caught flat footed, as Gustafson shoots in with a quick takedown into guard. Gustafson trying to control but Barca is working from the bottom. Gustafson passes easily into side control. Nice work. Barca is positioning himself to get back to half guard. Gustafson is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Barca knows the correct defense though, so he's OK. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Barca is not content to let Gustafson control the position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Barca tries to bench press Gustafson off him but Gustafson keeps the position. Gustafson tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though. Gustafson looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything. Barca manages to get back to half guard. Gustafson is working for a submission of some sort.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Gustafson is trying to work for a kimura but Barca is defending well.
Gustafson is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Gustafson is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Barca is just riding it out for now. Gustafson eventually gives up the hold. Barca actively working from the bottom here. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Gustafson is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there. Barca tries to get to full guard but Gustafson has control of the leg. Gustafson is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Barca defends it well. Barca felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it. Barca actively working from the bottom here. Gustafson moves nicely into side control.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Gustafson is working to tighten his grip on Barca's neck. He's isolated an arm and is working for an arm triangle. Barca has recognised the danger and is trying to turn with the submission but Gustafson is really squeezing tight and eventually Barca passes out! Gustafson breaks the hold and jumps onto the cage to celebrate! Submission of the night, I'd say!
