The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Donk. Maldini catches Averescu right on the button with a cross.

Averescu shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Maldini is trying to defend but Averescu finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Averescu in particular looking to stall.
Maldini has been taking part in the yoga sessions down at FORBIDDEN VIOLENCE WARRIORS. Presumably he's going to look for a slick submission... Or maybe he's looking to avoid one.

Averescu looks to land a combination but Maldini avoids it well.
Maldini fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Averescu manages to avoid it.

Averescu tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Maldini defends well and Averescu ends up having to push Maldini into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

Maldini fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Averescu.
Averescu on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Maldini. Maldini obviously looking to wear him down.

Averescu looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Maldini is fending him off so far but Averescu persists. Nope, Maldini circles away and we're back to standing.
Averescu shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Maldini as he jumps to the side.

Maldini connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
Maldini lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Averescu looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Averescu looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.
Maldini throws the left hand but Averescu avoids the punch easily.
Maldini throws a leg kick but Averescu sees it coming and checks it nicely.

Good leg kick by Maldini there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.

Maldini is landing a lot of head punches in this opening round! Averescu had better start moving his head a bit unless he wants his face to turn into pâté.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Averescu fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Maldini to the ground. Averescu is now in Maldini's guard.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Maldini clobbers Averescu with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.
Maldini keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Maldini feints and then cracks Averescu's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Averescu down.

Maldini checks a low kick. Bone on bone - not my idea of a good time.
Maldini tries a head kick but it misses.
Averescu tries to counter by moving into the clinch but Maldini manages to circle out of the way.

Averescu rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Maldini moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Maldini is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Maldini wants to pass to mount but Averescu is defending the position.

Averescu has given up his back - I don’t know if this is a deliberate ploy to try and escape or if he is just struggling down there.
