PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Sung Cole (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tyrock Dillick (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Tyrock Dillick is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Sung Cole!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Tyrock Dillick!
The judges for this bout are Francis DeMontford, Darius Henderson and Damien Edna.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Dillick manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Cole on his heels. He'll look to pass Cole's guard now, I'm sure.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Cole is on top in guard.


Cole drops back looking for a leg! Dillick is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Dillick manages to kick Cole off! Cole jumps back into Dillick's guard.
Cole distracts Dillick with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Cole is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
Cole trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Cole could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Dillick lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Cole tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Dillick wants to control from the top but Cole keeps moving.

Cole is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Dillick is aware though and is defending well.
Dillick must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Cole is trying to control the position but Dillick postures up.
Dillick really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Cole. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Dillick is looking to work some ground and pound but Cole has wrist control.
Cole has a closed guard, preventing Dillick from standing up.
Dillick working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Dillick wants to control from the top but Cole keeps moving.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Tyrock Dillick seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Cole closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Dillick's guard.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Cole drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Dillick dives on top into guard.

Dillick wants to control from the top but Cole keeps moving.

Dillick wants to get up but he can't break Cole's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Dillick has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Cole is proving hard to escape from.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Cole is trying to keep Dillick in close.
Cole wants to sweep but no luck.
Dillick tries to free his leg and advance position but Cole is retaining full guard.
Dillick looking to sit in guard and control but Cole gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Cole lands a couple of elbows.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Dillick tries to strike from the bottom.
Dillick keeping moving, preventing Cole from controlling successfully.
Cole in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Sung Cole will probably get the nod.
That's time! Cole's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.



Dillick shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.

Cole is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.


Cole wants to work for an arm triangle but Dillick is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Dillick wants to get back to his feet.
Dillick tries to get to full guard but Cole has control of the leg.
Cole slips a nice elbow through Dillick's hands, connecting with Dillick's forehead.

Dillick is bucking up trying to escape but Cole cracks him with another couple of good strikes.

Cole cracks Dillick with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.

Cole goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Dillick turns into him and now he's in Cole's guard.
Cole pulls Dillick in close to prevent any damage.

Dillick trying to control the position from guard on top but Cole is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Dillick wants to pass the guard but Cole is keeping the position.
Dillick throws a big right hand that misses.
Dillick advances position into side control!

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Cole parries the strikes from Dillick easily there. Dillick is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Cole to escape.
Cole can't do much from the bottom here.

Dillick scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Cole to see if he's OK.

Dillick decides to take the fight back to the feet.
Dillick scores with a jab to the jaw of his opponent.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Cole closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Dillick did well to prevent Cole getting side control.

Cole thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Dillick's head.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Sung Cole will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. And we move into the final round!


Dillick doesn't manage to clinch there - Cole circles away.

Cole fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Dillick sprawls well initially but Cole persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Dillick has managed to escape just enough to sneak back to his feet but Cole is on him like a limpet, forcing Dillick back against the cage.

Cole prevents Dillick from getting back to his feet.
Cole working some strikes from top position.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Cole trying to control but Dillick is working from the bottom.
Cole missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.

Cole decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Dillick, up you get!

Cole feinted with a counter takedown.

and Cole counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

Cole controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Cole is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
Dillick looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Dillick is still trying to improve position.
Dillick takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Cole works over Dillick with some ground and pound from guard.
Dillick keeping moving, preventing Cole from controlling successfully.

Cole gets to his feet. Dillick looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

A momentary lapse in concentration from Cole enables Dillick to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Cole manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Cole uses the cage to get back to his feet.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Dillick scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Dillick throws a big elbow that misses, also allowing Cole to regain full guard.
Cole might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Dillick stops Cole from standing up.

Cole is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Cole keeping full guard, as Dillick tries to pass.
Dillick wants to control from the top but Cole keeps moving.

Dillick passes Cole's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Cole is refusing to be controlled, as Dillick sits in half guard.
Dillick tries to pass to full mount but Cole defends it.
Dillick throwing shots but Cole is blocking nicely.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Dillick missing with the ground and pound from half guard.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Cole slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Cole managing to control the position.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Cole.

Dillick drives through and clinches with Cole against the cage.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Sung Cole.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Cole, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
