Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Llyod Christmas! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jashon McKnight! The judges for this bout are Alec Ball, William Peck and Dillan Fox.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Christmas looks to land a combination. McKnight sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots. Nice shot lands for Christmas. Nice takedown defense from Christmas. No joy for McKnight on that attempt. McKnight is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Christmas. Horrible takedown by McKnight or perhaps it was just good defense by Christmas which made him look bad. Christmas closes the distance and clinches. McKnight drops down looking for an ankle pick but Christmas pulls his leg out and moves away.
Llyod Christmas has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jashon McKnight. Christmas gets in close and instigates a clinch. Christmas stops a takedown attempt from McKnight.
McKnight has Christmas pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Christmas manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing. McKnight drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
McKnight looks gassed! The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. McKnight goes for a takedown attempt but Christmas pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
McKnight fails with a takedown attempt. Christmas clinches. A right hand to the body from Christmas.
That's one minute gone in the round. Christmas has clasped his hands together around McKnight's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Christmas trying to control the position but McKnight is working away. Christmas scores with punches from side control. Christmas working the ground and pound. Christmas scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at McKnight to see if he's OK. Christmas wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by McKnight, who protects the arm well. McKnight is trying to improve his position. Christmas is trying to get an arm triangle but McKnight is defending well. Christmas tries for a kimura but McKnight is defending well. Christmas has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
That's two minutes gone in the round. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Christmas wants to lay and pray for a moment but McKnight keeps working. Christmas tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though. McKnight really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Christmas. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. McKnight looking for a sweep but Christmas has passed into full mount! Oh no! The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. McKnight keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Christmas is looking to work his way around to McKnight's back. He needs to be careful though, as he's in danger of losing this dominant position. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if McKnight can do anything to dispel that myth.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Christmas stands up from mount. Strange move. McKnight takes a kick to the side of the head. McKnight misses with a takedown attempt - Christmas sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. McKnight tries to check the leg kick but that clearly hurt him. Christmas clinches up against the cage. Knees to the body from Christmas.
Christmas lands on the inside with an uppercut. Christmas jumps guard.
McKnight drops back looking for a leg! Christmas is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Christmas manages to kick McKnight off! McKnight jumps back into Christmas's guard. McKnight is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
That's four minutes gone in the round. McKnight has a momentary lapse of concentration, allowing Christmas to throw up a leg and lock on what appears to be a pretty tight triangle! McKnight is fighting it off but it's all too little too late - Christmas pulls down on the head and he's put McKnight to sleep! This one is all over!
