Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Lanny Burris (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Chris Perrone (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chris Perrone is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Lanny Burris! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Chris Perrone! The judges for this bout are Roger Salmon, Josh West and Micheangelo Fripello.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Burris lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh. Perrone looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight! Perrone throws an ugly left hook that misses
and Burris counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Burris. Perrone tries to break the clinch but Burris is controlling the position. Perrone looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now. Burris decides to pull guard. Burris will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Burris has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Burris lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Burris lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Burris lands a couple of elbows. Burris has gone for a leg lock! Perrone slips out almost immediately though and dives into Burris's guard.

Burris really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. Perrone gets a double leg takedown into Burris's guard. Burris manages to wriggle out and sneak his way back up to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched up against the cage. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Burris takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life. We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Perrone has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat. Perrone is trying to push Burris away but Burris has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.

Burris is pulling down on Perrone's head. It's preventing any offense from Perrone, at least for the moment. Burris wants to stand up but Perrone is controlling him. Burris looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it. Burris avoiding any damage from the ground and pound. Burris is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Perrone is aware though and is defending well.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Burris keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Perrone's efforts to push away. Burris scores with a nice hook to the head. Burris pulls guard effortlessly. Burris has his feet on Perrone's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work. Burris pushes Perrone up against the cage in a clinch. Burris lands an uppercut. Burris drags the fight down to the ground.

Perrone tries to circle away but Burris has him pinned against the cage. Burris jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Perrone walks away with a smile on his face. Burris gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head. Burris forces Perrone back against the cage and clinches. Perrone letting Burris take a breather here. Perrone tries a body shot but Burris blocks it.
Burris is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Perrone can do to turn this around? Burris breaks the clinch.

Burris wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now. Perrone is breathing heavily.
That's one minute gone in the round. Perrone stops Burris from standing up. Perrone throws an elbow that misses. Burris uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Perrone's guard. Perrone must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Burris lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.
Burris is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there. Burris is working Perrone over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes. Burris lands a couple of elbows. Burris decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Perrone, up you get! Burris lands with a slapping head kick. Burris throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Perrone's head.

Lanny Burris is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Burris rushes Perrone and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch. Burris lands a good knee to the midsection. Perrone won't want to take too many of those. Burris landing some nice looking knees to the body.

That's three minutes gone in the round. A right-left combo lands from Burris. Burris connects with a solid leg kick. Burris forces Perrone back against the cage and clinches. Burris gets control of Perrone's arms and successfully pulls guard. Burris will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back. Perrone is fighting to break Burris's control of his arms but Burris is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment. Burris has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Burris will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.

Burris is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Burris stands up over Perrone, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head. Chris Perrone has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Burris drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Burris jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. Lanny Burris is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach. Burris controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
