Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Derrick Richard (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Hunter Curtis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hunter Curtis has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Derrick Richard!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Hunter Curtis!
The judges for this bout are William Peck, Ian Loll and Trevor Gratis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Curtis scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Richard tries to get to full guard but Curtis has control of the leg.

Richard looking for submissions off his back.
Richard tries to roll over but Curtis keeps him under control.
Curtis sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Richard defending well though.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.

Richard is trying to get back to full guard.
Curtis keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Curtis is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Richard's half guard.
Curtis is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Curtis is working for a submission of some sort.

Richard is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Curtis scores with a couple of nice shots.

Curtis seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.

Curtis is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Richard defends it well.
Well, if Curtis is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
It looks like Curtis might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Curtis wants to control but Richard is keeping him busy.

Curtis seems to be looking for submissions.

We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.



Curtis looking to score a takedown here. Richard is defending well but Curtis drives through and ends up in Richard's guard.

Curtis gets to his feet - Richard follows without any prompting.
Curtis darts in looking for a takedown but Richard gets double underhooks and turns Curtis into the cage.
Richard lifts his leg as if looking to counter with a high kick.

Curtis wants to sweep but no luck.

Curtis is looking for a triangle but Richard pushes his legs off easily.
Richard loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Hunter Curtis has got the better of the ground game so far.

Curtis has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Richard can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Richard throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Richard wants to get up but he can't break Curtis's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Curtis is trying to keep Richard in close.
Richard wants to stand and escape but instead Curtis has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

Curtis controls from within his opponent's guard.

Richard working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Curtis doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Curtis manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Curtis looking to control the position here, rather than advance.

Curtis's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
Curtis wants to control from the top but Richard keeps moving.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Curtis rushes Richard and presses him up against the cage.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Curtis pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Curtis throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Curtis shoots in but no luck this time.
Richard appears to be looking for a counter takedown.
Curtis is breathing heavily.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Richard.

Curtis manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Richard on his heels. He'll look to pass Richard's guard now, I'm sure.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Curtis postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Richard is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Curtis, into his guard.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Hunter Curtis showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!


Richard avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Richard gets caught napping as Curtis dives in and scores a takedown. Richard manages to retain guard.
Curtis stays in close to Richard's body and controls the position.
Richard is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Richard is working an open guard so Curtis takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

Curtis gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Richard is trying to force a seperation but Curtis has the dominant position.

Curtis pulls guard successfully.

Curtis has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Richard off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.
Horrible takedown attempt by Curtis or perhaps it was just good defense by Richard, which made it look bad.
Curtis takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Curtis misses with a jab, cross combination.
Curtis fails with an attempt to clinch.

Curtis tries to clinch up.
Richard stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Richard wants it to stay on the feet.
Curtis fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Derrick Richard has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Hunter Curtis.
Curtis slaps away a takedown attempt from Richard, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Curtis counters with a body kick.

Richard shoots in and gets a takedown into Curtis's guard.

Curtis manages to escape and get back to his feet.
Hunter Curtis is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Richard wants to clinch.

and Richard counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Curtis has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Richard is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Curtis's half guard.
Curtis wants to stand back up but Richard manages to pass into side control.

Richard working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.

Hunter Curtis comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Curtis winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
