Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Peter Hurst! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Abdollah Assad! The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, Timothy Bukovac and Frank Antenori.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Hurst fails to land with a series of punches.
Assad throws a right and a left that both miss. Assad throws a nice looking combination but Hurst bobs and weaves to avoid any damage. Hurst really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. Assad closes the distance but Hurst moves to the side and Hurst counters with a lovely shot to the body. Abdollah Assad seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Assad tries to clinch up but Hurst circles away and keeps his distance. Hurst appears to be looking for a counter punch to the body. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Hurst shoots in but Assad avoids the takedown attempt easily. Assad looking for a takedown here - he's got it. We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
That's one minute gone in the round. Hurst is looking to stand up but Assad isn't so interested in that idea. Assad controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling. Assad postures up and lands a big shot to Hurst's brow. Hurst is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Hurst looking for a guillotine here but Assad defends easily.
Hurst had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Assad defends it easily. Hurst pulls Assad in close to prevent any damage.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. Assad won't allow Hurst to sweep him here. Assad wants to control from the top but Hurst keeps moving. Hurst is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Assad is aware though and is defending well. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Assad working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Hurst's head. Hurst has control of Assad's left arm, preventing Assad from doing any damage. Hurst is trying to keep Assad in close.
Assad controls from within his opponent's guard. Assad landing some decent shots from guard. Hurst has his foot on Assad's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Assad works his way back into a safe position though. Assad really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Hurst. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Hurst is breathing heavily.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Assad connects with a couple of short punches. Assad controls from within his opponent's guard. Assad is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact. Hurst will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Assad is in close to Hurst's body, working some short punches and elbows. Assad postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head. Assad scoring with punches to the head and body.
Hurst is rocked! Assad with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal. Oh Hurst is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!! Assad postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head. Assad arches his back and unloads with a massive left and a right! Hurst's eyes roll back into his head, he's out cold! The ref dives in to stop the fight - wow, they were hard shots!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:47 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Strikes). Abdollah Assad!
