Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Hideaki Inoue! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Sam Shepherd! The judges for this bout are Ben Hemmingworth, Hugh Johnson and John Mangel.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Shepherd misses with a telegraphed body shot
and Inoue counters with a lovely straight right hand! Inoue lands a jab to the nose. Shepherd tries a head kick but it misses.
Inoue throwing a counter right hand but Shepherd manages to avoid it. Shepherd clinches with his opponent.
Shepherd trying to stall but Inoue improves his position.
Inoue displaying some good clinch control by pressing Shepherd up against the cage. Inoue pulls guard successfully.
Shepherd wants to control from the top but Inoue keeps moving. Shepherd postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Inoue working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Shepherd doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Shepherd manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Shepherd really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Inoue. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Inoue has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Shepherd can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
That's one minute gone in the round. Shepherd wants to stand and escape but instead Inoue has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard. Shepherd throwing strikes off his back to little effect.
Inoue stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Shepherd swivels though and keeps the full guard. Shepherd not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Inoue trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Shepherd is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Shepherd trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from!
That's two minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Inoue trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Inoue stands and throws Shepherd's legs to the side, diving into side control. Inoue tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though. Shepherd reaches up around Inoue's neck trying to control. But Inoue takes advantage instantly and he's locked on an arm triangle! Big trouble for Shepherd! Oh that looks nasty! A human being's head is not meant to turn that color! Shepherd is out! He's gone limp! The ref steps in to break the fighters up and Inoue celebrates the victory with the fans!
