Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 2 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
16 - 18 - 1, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Joao De Santo Cristo! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
19 - 14 - 0, fighting out of London, Axl Rose! The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Alan Glass and Cecil Peabody.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! A momentary lapse in concentration from Rose enables De Santo Cristo to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Rose manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat. De Santo Cristo throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Rose works some decent striking defense from the bottom. Rose looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! De Santo Cristo has picked Rose up and slammed him! Rose can't keep hold of the triangle and De Santo Cristo manages to pass to side control! De Santo Cristo looks up at the clock and then as Rose takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, De Santo Cristo smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!
The strikes coming from De Santo Cristo are missing the target in this wave of attacks. De Santo Cristo lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Rose down.
De Santo Cristo taking a breather here. You can see the frustration on Rose's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. De Santo Cristo is working Rose over with some ground and pound from side control.
That's one minute gone in the round. Rose is working to avoid the ground and pound but De Santo Cristo connects with a decent elbow. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. De Santo Cristo slows the pace down. Rose is not content to let De Santo Cristo control the position. De Santo Cristo in side control, throwing shots but Rose defends. De Santo Cristo cracks Rose with an elbow. That is naaassty. De Santo Cristo cracks Rose with a big right hand but Rose just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.
De Santo Cristo throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Rose is trying to control De Santo Cristo's posture but De Santo Cristo avoids it. De Santo Cristo lands an elbow. De Santo Cristo tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though. Rose tries to improve position but can't. De Santo Cristo working the ground and pound. De Santo Cristo working away diligently from side control. Landing strikes effectively there - that will score him some points on the judges scorecards.
Rose is looking for a sweep.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Rose takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
Rose tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but De Santo Cristo wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control. De Santo Cristo lands some shots froms side control. De Santo Cristo misses with the ground and pound. Rose takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head. De Santo Cristo wants to control but Rose is keeping him busy. Rose sneaks back into half guard. De Santo Cristo working Rose over with strikes.
That's four minutes gone in the round. De Santo Cristo is just content to waste time from the top position. Rose takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard. Rose preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. Rose had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. De Santo Cristo defends it easily. Rose keeping moving, preventing De Santo Cristo from controlling successfully. De Santo Cristo is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. De Santo Cristo not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Rose moves out of range as De Santo Cristo strikes. Joao De Santo Cristo seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. De Santo Cristo with a hook. De Santo Cristo lands with an uppercut that bounces Rose off the cage and back into range. Rose needs to keep his hands up - De Santo Cristo had a free shot at his head there. Nice jab there from De Santo Cristo. De Santo Cristo with a lazy takedown attempt and Rose connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
It looks like Joao De Santo Cristo has been cut. Horrible takedown attempt by De Santo Cristo or perhaps it was just good defense by Rose, which made it look bad. Rose counters with a body kick. Donk. De Santo Cristo catches Rose right on the button with a cross. De Santo Cristo scores with a nice head shot. De Santo Cristo jabs. That one connects to the head of his opponent.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! De Santo Cristo takes the fight into the clinch. De Santo Cristo can't get the takedown.

That's one minute gone in the round. De Santo Cristo lands with a good tight uppercut to the head. De Santo Cristo is looking to take this one to the mat. Rose breaks from the clinch.
Rose uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from De Santo Cristo. Rose feints a counter leg kick. Good shot there by De Santo Cristo. De Santo Cristo moves in looking to clinch but Rose pushes him off. De Santo Cristo looking for a takedown here - he's got it. De Santo Cristo lands a couple of digs. Rose is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as De Santo Cristo accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Axl Rose has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
That's two minutes gone in the round. Rose keeping full guard, as De Santo Cristo tries to pass. De Santo Cristo keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Rose's head. Rose looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
De Santo Cristo is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact. De Santo Cristo trying to control but Rose is working from the bottom. De Santo Cristo throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Rose works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
That's three minutes gone in the round. De Santo Cristo slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard. De Santo Cristo has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. De Santo Cristo stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Rose swivels though and keeps the full guard. Rose is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and De Santo Cristo defends well. De Santo Cristo slips nicely into half guard. De Santo Cristo drops an elbow to the side of Rose's head.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Rose tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land. De Santo Cristo is trying to control. Rose wants to improve his position but can't escape this time. Rose keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound. De Santo Cristo sitting and controlling from the half guard. The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Joao De Santo Cristo is winning the standup battle so far. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. A solid leg kick lands there for De Santo Cristo.

And that's the end of the fight! Joao De Santo Cristo showed his dominance in that final round. Well De Santo Cristo has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
