Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Eusebio Marsh! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Simon Burly! The judges for this bout are Summer Carpenter, Francis DeMontford and Ron Honeybunn.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Marsh avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Burly is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Marsh's half guard. Marsh wants to stand back up but Burly manages to pass into side control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. You can see the frustration on Marsh's face as Burly controls the position. Marsh really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. Marsh takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better. Burly slows the pace down. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Marsh regains half guard. Burly missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Marsh is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Burly is nestled in close to Marsh, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Marsh is rocked! Marsh is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Burly scores with a couple of nice shots. Oh Marsh is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!! Burly passes to side control. Burly has hold of Marsh's arm here. He's working for an Americana. It looks like he might have it! Marsh tries to escape but he's just digging himself in deeper - Burly cranks the arm and Marsh screams in pain! The ref makes a decision and ends the fight before the tap - no complains from Marsh, who is just happy to have his arm attached to his body.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:39 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Americana). Simon Burly!
