Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Stefan Verdasco!
The judges for this bout are Matti Vanhoillinen, Tarja Halkonen and Marco Blurström.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Verdasco fails with an attempt to clinch.
No luck for Verdasco with that takedown attempt.
Verdasco closes the distance and clinches up with Colon, looking for a takedown. Verdasco pushes Colon against the cage but Colon circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Colon attempts a counter takedown but Verdasco avoids it well and moves away.
Verdasco tries to clinch

and Colon counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Verdasco looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Colon postures up.
Verdasco trying to strike off his back.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Colon throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Colon throwing strikes but missing.
Verdasco pulls Colon in close to prevent any damage.

Colon lands a couple of digs.
Verdasco controlling the position.
Verdasco is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Colon could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Colon throws a big elbow that misses.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Colon's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Colon has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Colon postures up.
Colon in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Colon wants to control from the top but Verdasco keeps moving.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Verdasco is pulling down on Colon's head. It's preventing any offense from Colon, at least for the moment.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Verdasco tries to close the distance and clinch up but Colon swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Verdasco tries a head kick but it misses.
Verdasco looks for a takedown but Colon sprawls well.
Colon appears to be looking for a counter takedown.
Brock Colon has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Stefan Verdasco.
Verdasco tries to clinch up.
Colon leaves Verdasco with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Verdasco ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.

Verdasco looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Colon is fending him off so far but Verdasco persists. Nope, Colon circles away and we're back to standing.
Verdasco is looking to clinch.
Colon changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.
Verdasco closes the distance and clinches up with Colon, looking for a takedown. Verdasco pushes Colon against the cage but Colon circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Colon wants to take advantage of his opponent's missed offense by moving into the clinch.
Colon throws a head kick that misses.
Verdasco looks to throw a body kick

and Colon counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

Colon is sitting in close to Verdasco's body. Verdasco has gone for a guillotine from the bottom. Oh damn, that looks pretty tight! Colon is panicking - it looks like this one could be all over! Yes, Colon is tapping! That was a very nice submission by Verdasco.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:53 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Stefan Verdasco!
