Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the bantamweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
18 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Haywood Badger! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, David Neil! The judges for this bout are Sam Margolis, James Ackerman and Steven Brown.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Badger bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut. Neil throws out a token jab with nothing on it. Badger throws a nice outside leg kick. Neil pushing out the jab but it's not landing. A telegraphed right hand from Neil misses the target. A big right from Neil misses. Neil misses with an uppercut. Neil misses with a hook. Neil throws a wild combination but nothing lands. Badger dodges the punch combination from Neil.
A punch lands to the side of Neil 's head but he takes it in his stride. Badger throws a one two combo.
Badger has been working on his boxing with his coaches at Marijuana Gardens in the buildup to the fight. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Neil connects with a right hand. Badger shakes it off. Badger scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard. Neil takes one to the side of the head.
Neil scores with a decent looking hook. Neil misses with a two punch combination.
Badger was looking to counter that last move with a shot to the body but he didn't commit. Badger lands with an uppercut that bounces Neil off the cage and back into range. Neil misses with a hook. Badger fires out a quick counter leg kick but Neil just manages to avoid it.
That's one minute gone in the round. Badger lands a nice looking kick to the body. Neil takes a step back to recover. Badger comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range. Neil fails to land with a series of punches.
Neil throws a right hand that misses
letting Badger counter with a right hand. Neil throws an ugly left hook that misses
and Badger counters with a straight right hand. Badger lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise. No joy there for Neil, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
David Neil seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Neil has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Badger. Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Badger.
A big right from Badger misses. Badger rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Neil cracks him with a counter punch right on the button. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Neil misses with an uppercut
and Badger counters with a takedown into side control. Neil really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Badger. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Badger has worked his way into a potential kimura here. Neil is trying to get out of the position but his squirming has just got him deeper into trouble. Badger yanks on the arm and Neil is forced to tap due to a very painful looking submission! Nice work by Badger.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:55 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Haywood Badger! Haywood Badger is the new bantamweight champion! An out of breath Haywood Badger thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
