Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
19 - 8 - 2, fighting out of Montreal, BJ McGobblecock! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
22 - 20 - 0, fighting out of London, Lance Legstrong! The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, and Frank Antenori.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! McGobblecock, Jr. jabs at Legstrong's body. McGobblecock, Jr. defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Legstrong. Legstrong gets a clinch. Legstrong takes a knee right on the jaw!
Legstrong takes an elbow to the forehead. Legstrong jumps guard and drags McGobblecock, Jr. to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back. Legstrong is trying to keep McGobblecock, Jr. in close.
Legstrong looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but McGobblecock, Jr. puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard. McGobblecock, Jr. perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there. Legstrong wants to control but McGobblecock, Jr. passes into side.
Legstrong tries to improve position but can't. McGobblecock, Jr. tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it. McGobblecock, Jr. will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. McGobblecock, Jr. decides to stand up, so the ref orders Legstrong to his feet.
That's one minute gone in the round. McGobblecock, Jr. looks to throw the jab but Legstrong is out of range. Nice shot lands for McGobblecock, Jr.. Legstrong blocks a jab. Legstrong gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here. McGobblecock, Jr. misses with a knee strike.
McGobblecock, Jr. has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance. Legstrong swings wildly with an uppercut but McGobblecock, Jr. uses good head movement to avoid it. We've been informed that Legstrong has been sparring a lot of Muay Thai in the buildup to this fight so let's see if that has an impact on the result. Legstrong misses with a hook from the clinch. Legstrong lands on the inside with an uppercut. McGobblecock, Jr. prevents the takedown attempt.
McGobblecock, Jr. tries to land a knee to the head but misses.
Legstrong tries a body shot but McGobblecock, Jr. blocks it.
McGobblecock, Jr. doesn't land with the attempted body shot.
Legstrong gets control of McGobblecock, Jr.'s arms and successfully pulls guard. Legstrong will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back. McGobblecock, Jr. would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Legstrong tries to land a sweep but no joy. McGobblecock, Jr. not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up. Legstrong working a defensive guard here.
Legstrong is working for submissions here. He's thrown up his legs looking for a triangle but McGobblecock, Jr. frees his head nicely. Oh but Legstrong has switched to an armbar! McGobblecock, Jr. is tapping furiously! Lovely submission there!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:52 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle Armbar). Lance Legstrong! After the fight, Lance Legstrong was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
