Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Dusty Mears (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Randy Orton (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Orton is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Voices. Randy Orton will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Dusty Mears!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Randy Orton!
The judges for this bout are Robert Douchet, Alec Ball and Steve Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Orton throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.

Mears clinches up with Orton and pushes him back against the cage.
Mears takes a shot to the head.
Mears gets an overhook and lands an elbow to the side of the head.

Mears wants the takedown. Orton is fighting it off but Mears persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Orton's guard against the cage.

Orton has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Mears can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Mears won't allow Orton to sweep him here.

Orton escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Mears gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Orton working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Mears doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Mears manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Mears knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Orton on the ground.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Orton controls Mears momentarily but Mears frees himself.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.

Mears avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Orton looking to hit a scissor sweep but Mears is one step ahead there.
Mears might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Orton is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Orton is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Orton throws his legs up looking for a submission but Mears uses it to pass to side control.
Mears looking to punish the body of his opponent here but Orton is avoiding damage well.

Mears thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Orton is looking to sinch up a gullotine here but Mears pulls his head out easily.
Mears lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Dusty Mears will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!



Mears closes the distance and pushes Orton back into the cage.

Mears has Orton pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Mears pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Orton tumbling to the mat - Mears dives into Orton's guard.
Mears wants to control from the top but Orton keeps moving.
Orton looking to hit a scissor sweep but Mears is one step ahead there.
Mears loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

Orton is trying to control the position but Mears postures up.

Orton has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Mears is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Orton.

Mears has the hooks in. Orton is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.

A slow jab from Orton misses its intended target.

Mears changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Orton looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Mears unloads a knee to the mid-section. Orton lets out a prehistoric sounding urrrrgh.

Mears has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Orton is trying to keep an underhook but Mears manages to get the takedown into half guard.

Orton is staying active underneath Mears, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Mears wants to take a breather but Orton is having none of it.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Orton lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Mears circles away quickly and effectively.
Orton has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.
Mears lands a jab.

Mears shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Orton's guard.

Mears working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Orton's head.

Mears thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Dusty Mears overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Orton manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Mears manages to get himself to full guard.

Well Mears has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
