Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Alex Mercer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Alex Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Mercer might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Doomsday. Jones has chosen ADIDAS as his entrance music. Alex Mercer has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Alex Mercer!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Alex Jones!
The judges for this bout are Elvis Blanc, Robert Douchet and Steve Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A head kick misses from Jones.
Jones circles away from the clinch attempt.
Jones closes the distance and lands a one-two.


It looks like Alex Mercer has been cut.
Mercer throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Mercer swinging wilding here.

Jones clinches.
Jones tries to break the clinch but Mercer is controlling the position.
Jones can't break the clinch.
Jones wants to break the clinch but can't.
Jones tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.

Jones manages to break the clinch.
Mercer looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

Jones clinches.
Jones tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Mercer tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Jones just stands there and leans against the cage.
Jones tries to pull guard but Mercer holds him up against the cage and eventually Jones drops back down to his feet.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Jones jumps guard but Mercer stands there with Jones around his waist. Jones gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Alex Mercer has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Alex Jones.

Mercer has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Jones uses from the top position.

Jones decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Mercer, up you get!
Jones fails to land the takedown.
Jones misses with a double jab.
Jones is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Mercer.
Jones scores with a one two! Mercer had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Mercer misses with a knee to the head.
Jones wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Mercer has him pressed against the cage.
Jones fails to pull the fight into his guard.

Jones prevents the takedown attempt.

Mercer pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Alex Mercer seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Mercer shoots in looking for a takedown. Jones tries to sprawl out of it but Mercer keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Jones manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Mercer looks for a takedown but Jones sprawls well.
Mercer is breathing heavily.
Mercer doesn't manage to clinch there - Jones circles away.
Mercer moves forwards but Jones connects with a nice, crisp jab.

Jones clinches up with Mercer and pushes him back against the cage.

Jones has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Mercer uses from the top position.
Mercer trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Jones wants to sweep here but Mercer controlling him for the moment.

Jones is pulling down on Mercer's head to control his posture.
Mercer wants to control from the top but Jones keeps moving.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Jones doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.
Jones working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Mercer.

Jones had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Mercer is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Jones Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Mercer's back instead.
Mercer manages to reverse the position and now he's in Jones's guard. Nice work there by Mercer.
Mercer has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Jones is cranking Mercer's head sideways - that looks painful. He's managed to get his other arm under the chin and this looks bad for Mercer! He's tightened the choke and Mercer is tapping out!
